Johnny Utahs Bike Change Operation

Dropped the Jeeps off at the shipping agent this am. Spent the week loading everything, prepping, greasing and stocking up on extra parts. Flying into Denver Friday then driving to Moab to meet the Jeeps.

I fully plan on dressing like Alan from the hangover for the flight....because I finally will have minimal chance of running into a customer from work.

I should gain a solid ten pounds next week.....

In addition we just redid my buddies JK steering and added a winch....it’s been a crazy three weeks of wrenching.

Some of the days will be beyond my 19 gallon fuel capacity so I added extra tanks to make up the difference. All packed without driver I am right around 5300lbs. That includes spare front and rear driveshafts, every needed to disassemble/reassemble (for the most part) lots of spare fluids and recovery gear.

If you want to follow the wheeling my Instagram handle is #stretchedtj I will try to go live when I can but cell reception isn’t that great on top of the Mesa.View attachment 92401View attachment 92402View attachment 92403View attachment 92404
Looks epic. Is there beer getting frosty in the cooler?

Didn't you actually drive out West last time instead of ship?

There is a bottle of bourbon in the toolbox 🙂 Beer is weird out there because of the Mormon laws, they can't sell beer above 4% abv, so we stop in Grand Junction CO and stock up. Somehow the Moab brewery gets away with selling you can's of their out of state distribution beer, that is 8% but everything on tap is 4% or below. The food and wall art there is killer. https://themoabbrewery.com/

Yeah, last year we built a JL on one ton axles and 40" tires, once the vinyl wrap was put on we drove out. Made it in 41hrs with 7 hours sleep but it was exhausting. By the time we pointed back to Jersey every light was on.......mostly because the systems didn't know how to talk to the new axles yet. The whole Jeep was basically build with prototype items as the JL we had was one of the first off the lot....at least for a Rubicon model. All of the parts were essentially waiting at the shop when the Jeep finally made it.

Here are some of the shots from last years JL. Looks like our delivery may be delayed a day, our house is at the base of Pipedream so I may rent a Yeti SB150 to ride.

So I flew back into NJ last Saturday, between Easter and returning to work and family I made myself sick and rode the couch all weekend. We ended up covering 16 trails and 536 miles. Countless beers and platters of juevos rancheros but not breaks or damage. We did see some close calls though....we are only just beginning to get into the photos, there are tons of videos.

i see several pictures that probably have good stories to go with them, hopefully they werent anyone in your group (but then we miss out on the story)

including the jeep wedged hood first into the crevice, the 2 different (i hope) jeeps laying on their sides.

I am on some sort of consistent track in two weeks of awful weather. If I can keep it up for a few weeks I may add some color. Let’s stick to some photos for now.

The hardest part has been getting in the mindset to make time - and it has been happening.

Only one cheat this week - White House subs in AC.

The theme continues to be change. It’s has been a totally different move out of my comfort zone, which over the last three years has been working, eating and socializing.

  • Third week of 8hrs + on the bike
  • Counting calories
  • Work phone gets put away after 5 and on the weekends
  • I try not to start work until 8:30am
  • Other things are going on, but I will add that when I am ready
Main theme - get outside and stay outside as much as humanly possible. Stay away from toxic things and people. Guard my time.

I feel great.

Saturday I could not sleep - I was able to get up to Point Pleasant for a sunrise before shore traffic started.

My shed and garage we’re getting cramped, so I built some shelves to really pack my shed and open my garage.

Spent a ton of time outside.

Week four of eight hours + on the bicycle, plus other things. The trend has been solid - as things progress I will add color - not ready yet.

My buddy had a Pig Roast yesterday - rather than help / watch / drink beer I went out on the bike and got four hours in - skipped the pig too.

See below for some post-Wharton fire pictures from todays dual sport ride.

The amount of people I see in the pines stuck without a winch or any recovery gear is remarkable. Some of those water holes have a foot of clay mud underneath that acts like a suction cup.

My nights are getting shorter and mornings earlier - coffee/Brekafast with the Mrs.

Another week in the books, and it was a busy one.

Just shy of eight hours on the bike, BUT I was able to get four hours of TM in at Allaire as well as several rides there. My goal is to get back to trimming in Allaire as time allows, but a haircut as well as sight lines are coming back. The crew did a bang up job on the Hog Bog this morning - it looks REAL good! Even saw Capers getting in on some of the goodness.

Just about 41 years of age now - decided to relive my teenage years and get down with the Bizkit - it did not suck.

Lots of moto.

Made it to Jose’s post a work event - still my favorite Mexican joint (Spring Lake Heights) - even after multiple trips through Utah, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and Cali.

I am going to leave it there for now.
