The horses were brutal. Not something you want to have to deal with.

When you get a field of red-lined people riding as fast as they can it takes a lot of control to obey the yield rules. Leading into the first encounter I had finally gotten around aggro Bulldog SS guy. I saw the horses and came to almost a full stop and slowly rolled by. He completely blew around me at race speed. Huge asshole that guy. The horses were really spooked and the women riding were wicked aggravated.

They're right, it is a public park and the race is on open trails. Sucks that we pay to be there and still have less right of way then them but that's MTB racing - filled with disappointment.

Even though I hardly raced, I thought i would put a post for LM. It may read like one long excise for sucking.

Pre Rode on Saturday and felt OK, not great, but not bad. Went home and started doing some yard work. I got a headache around 3 or 4 and realized i didnt have any coffee except for the first small cup before my ride... which is about 3 less than usual by this time in the day. I figured I would tough it through in fear that a coffee this late would keep me up and and I didnt want to deal with that before a race.
Woke up race day and felt hung over, like i was hit by a truck. But breakfast went down good and I had enough coffee to make up for lost time.
Got to the race, did a small warm up and was pretty sure this was not going to work out well. Debated calling it then, but said f it. I downed a red bull , ate a gu and lined up.
The start was pretty easy, which i was not going to complain about. I started feeling like whatever was bothering me may pass. Like I said in @The Heckler thead, I was 3rd going up the first climb. Then I passed aggro guy and was second. Still feeling decent....then we hit the rooty climb and when I got to the top I was in bad shape. On the decent I got the chills. Not long after I started seeing spots. After almost going OTB on an non existent obstacle, i realized it was time to call it a race.
I slow rolled the rest of the loop to the finish.

On the way home I fell asleep (wife was driving). When I got home I went right to bed. Wife woke me up and said I should go to the dr so I did. I went to the RWJ in Flemington which is new. They were cool and I could tell they were very anti-antibiotic, which I like. Without an actual rash or tick, they weren't convinced its lymes. There's a chance its just some viral thing which would be good because I dont want to deal with 3 weeks of ABs.

Once month till my final H2H race at Mountain Creek.

Damn Man... Sucks... I hope you can sort this out quick. Keep us posted.

@The Heckler pinged me Saturday asking if I was racing Lew Mo, literally as I was snapping a pic of results of the Nesh race. That had me thinking about what kind of epic battle would ensue between you guys on Sunday. I was sitting by the pool Sunday stalking strava to get some sort of hint on what went down but it was crickets. Then later that night, I saw a FB post from Magic congratulating Matt. AND when I didn't see anything from you was curious what happened.

I had something similar two weeks ago, tested negative for Lyme, and it did pass, no meds.

It may have just been the heat, too. Saturday was deceptively hot and Sunday wasn't much better (just lower humidity), so you may have just been suffering a little heat exhaustion. I did a ride on Saturday and kept getting dizzy at the top of climbs. Then I slept for like 2 hours in the middle of the afternoon when I got home. If you're getting headaches from not having enough coffee, though, you may want to consider weaning off it a bit. I can't imagine that anything that causes withdrawal like that can be good.

Cumulative sodium depletion is my pet theory. I'm guessing you guys probably went harder Thu/Sat than you were supposed to, combined with the heat, combined with the outside work. Add it all up, and your internal chemistry gets all f'ed up.

This is my personal theory of what happens in the summer. Ever notice that everyone burns out in the summer yet most training plans have you riding twice as much in the winter & spring? Is it cumulative training, or maybe compressed-residual electrolyte depletion? I don't know the answer but I have yet to find an overtrained biker in any season but the summer.

Wait, you don't have to lie to us about trying to get out of yard work saying you have a headache... Only unless your wife reads your posts, then I understand why you need to remain consistent.

This could be true. I actually took it easy this week with the exception of the thursday lewmo ride and 20 miles in that heat had me hurtin. I took off friday but had to work saturday from 10:30 am-7pm. I did an easy spin sat on the fatty and felt better but I had those depleted headaches all day saturday. I was welding in rhe sun the whole time in a manlift and chugging water and skrtch labs but come sunday that didn't help. I felt tired when i woke up and tried ultima electrolyte drinks all morning but too little too late.

Yea, I don't know. Do these prognosis explain why I had a fever hours later? After a nap and a cold shower?
I've never had heat bother me like this...and I've done plenty of rides in heat.
Plus it wasn't even that hot this weekend. At least not in the mornings.

Prognosis - You're allergic to yard work... It happens around this age.

Recommendation: It's time to spend some of your baller status on a landscaper.

Get your priorities straight BRO! Yard work caused you to have a shit race, you let @The Heckler win and now your points series lead is vulnerable. Get it together man!

:hugs:

I'm still befuddled by the idea I'm required by law to pick up after my dog (which I have no issue with) but these aholes are allowed to leave 17lb dumps in the middle of a trail. Is horse poop magical brown happy stuff?
Horses don't eat meat. Their manure is essentially compost, w/no animal protein. Dog crap (note the different emphasis here?) is a great vector for roundworms and fecal coliform bacteria, among other super fun things. Here's some fun reading. So, yeah, comparatively, it is magical brown happy stuff.

Curse you and your data! Rabblerabblerabble!!!

Maybe they could at least push it aside or something...

Wait. I just realized there is an opportunity here to genetically engineer carnivorous horses.
