Knee pads recommendations

Like some folks alluded to, there are different "levels" of padding to choose from. On one end there is the minimalistic "padded sleeve" style that would likely be the most apropos for simple XC riding. On the far end is heavily padded/armor plated DH pads which would be highly uncomfortable and cumbersome for xc riding. And there are plenty in between depending on how much protection you ultimately want. All are going to suck riding XC in the summer though.

I understand it sucks to get road rash but maybe think about what the actual likelihood it can happen again? I once bought a set of TLD trail skins after a low side left me with some nasty rash but then never actually used it considering how hot it is riding Xc here in the summer. I might use them if riding a new/unknown park but havent yet.

In the market for some knee and elbow pads for technical trail/XC rides. Wouldn’t use them on “regular” rides where terrain doesn’t pose much risk. Leaning toward the Leatt Airflex knees based on your input and similar feedback on GearLab. There are several versions. For those that use Leatts which ones are you using? I am looking for something relatively light. Perhaps the “hybrid” or “ultralight”. Thoughts?

I have used the G-Shock, POC, idp7, and others. The G-Shock are weak and two different (expensive) models tore after <18 rides. I wouldn't buy them again. Their elbow/forearm pads are what I use now, doe.

The idp7 knee pads are the best. I use a mid weight flavor, but have some DH stuff in the closet.

The POC model are smaller than the others and only cover the knee.

Look at the G-Form X4 pads. They are light, airy and very comfortable. A little expensive but they don't look geeky. Perfect for xc/trail riding.

Figured I'd bump this thread to give a quick recommendation for the ION K-Pact Knee pads. Currently on sale at Jenson for $50 in the gray color. Heavy duty Level 2 protection. Just did two hours and didn't have to adjust them once during the ride. Didn't think about them at all after about 45 minutes. Definitely not the coolest of pads so I might think different if it were hot and humid today. For now I need the protection for my knee so these are a keeper.

If anyone wants a pair in Large for $45 let me know otherwise they're going back next week.

Well first congrats on back to riding because just a few posts up your patella was in the wrong spot.

On the knee pads let me check the sizing and get back to you my G form ones are good but slip down a bit too much.
