Lance Armstrong interview

The bullying and screwing with peoples lives is aside from the doping, two seperate things. I read Tyler Hamilton's book and he never said Armstrong forced him to dope. It didn't take the neopro's long to figure out what was going on and why these guys were that much faster. David Millar's book aligns in a similar way. The dealings with Ferrari were seperate and seemed like they were always kept as such. You also have to realize that Armstrong didn't want you stronger than him.
^TH made it sound like it was being invited to the inner circle when he was offered EPO, not a pressure sell.

I fell alseep before 10. Really not very compelling. So many legal deals going on in the background he's not going to open up to much. We are still not getting the whole story. I may watch again if I want to fall asleep before 10 tonight.

simple: don't need to dope if you can do your part without....

so when O asked if anyone could win without doping, wasn't the obvious answer 'no' - because nobody beat them - not 'i don't believe so'....

don't believe him about not using for the comeback either.....

if i get out today, will be wearing this, see what happens....

But that is the truth though. Clean people could win a one day / single stage in that era, but not a stage race. Plenty of people beat them in one day races and smaller stage races.

Just want to preface this by "dont lynch me" - just trying to play devils advocate, and understand whats going on...

anyway. I understand that Lance is a cheater, and many people hate him and what not. fine.

What I dont understand is that Lance seems to be getting killed way more then people like Bonds, Sosa, Clemens, Pettite, McGwire, Canseco, etc...Also Pete Rose. All cheaters.

It has been said that in order for Pete Rose to be considered for the hall of fame, all he needed to do was admit that he bet on baseball.

People would kill to have those baseball players just admit what they did wrong instead of wasting tax money in court, etc...

So, here we are with Lance agreeing to do an interview, and he comes out that he cheated. Cant we give him a little credit?

It it because he used cancer, his endorsements, and the livestrong charity, and this is what has created all the vitriol for him?

It takes a lot of gall to cheat at sports, and cheat the people. But it seems like nowadays it takes even more balls to actually admit you done it.

Dr Superb, the one problem with your view is this....if he hadn't been cornered, he would have continued his lies....he only came clean because he got caught...not because he had some epiphany about right and wrong....

Also, Lance did a lot more than just dope. He actively, and aggressively tore apart and destroyed the lives of everyone who crossed his path.

Frankly, I could care less about the doping, everyone was. I see what Roger Clemens and Mark McGuire did as more comparable to C. Vande velde, Tommy D and Levi Leip. Lance was on a totally different level with his tactics.

Once American sports fans and the media can accept the fact that EVERY professional athlete is on some sort of performance enhancer, we can move forward.

bill is right, we'll never know.

if LA was an asshat to everyone and universally hated, many of the points made would be valid.

but he's not. he's hated by people who came out against him, mostly. why did he go after those people so ferociously?

sure, maybe there was some ego there, but you need to look at the bigger picture. LA was (is still) a global brand worth 100s of millions in sales to his sponsors. it was in his best interest to maintain his innocence at all costs, even if that meant discrediting friends and teammates, until it became absolutely impossible to do so. and that's what happened.

and every single one of his sponsors rode him until the wheels totally fell off.

oh, its the money that drove the continued deception, but at the end of the day he needs to be able to look himself in the mirror and answer his kids questions... baring your soul to your kids that you cheated to get ahead...there is a tough nut....

Grown men and women being bullied. That is such BS. Why don't they write a book about it and sing about it and do what ever Miley Cyress and all these other countless bandwagon celebrities are doing these days? Then get rich and come back and stomp LA

Better words are deception, manipulation, blackmail

My wife told me the other day she said to her colleagues, "I thought being an adult would be different, but it's still the same shit." It was an ah ha moment for me.

Accept it in what way? That it's just a fact? Or that it's OK, and everyone should get over it and continue to enjoy those sports in the same way they always did?

Every athlete in every sport is looking to get an edge on the competition. Perhaps we should target the manufacturers of these drugs, rather than the athletes that get caught using them.

more than the manufacturers (because there's plenty of legit uses for these drugs) is the docs prescribing. they are the ones distributing it. i'm pretty sure that you can get HGH from a plastic surgeon if you wanted in some states tho. so maybe lance was just doing all this to stay younger looking, and he just cant bring himself to admit that? :hmmm:

both good ideas but neither would work.

lets face it, if a bunch of dudes on cross bikes started pulling in THOUSANDS of people to watch every weekend, the first thing that would happen is someone would start selling advertising. then category exclusivities. then endorsements. then athlete and team sponsorships. then the TV deal. then in order to make your corporate sponsors happy and get them more GRPs against the coveted 18-24 demo and national tv coverage, you need to win (or at least place) so you get featured. so you start with light bike parts. carbon! unobtainium! then everyone has it. now what? caffeine! red bull! viagra? shit yeah son, that increases your ability to cart oxygen around the body! oh, everyone can get that too. damn. shit, now what?

see where it all goes?
