Looking for some new bikes

My wife and I decided to get back into riding. We have been shopping around, but are not sure what to get.

I have been looking at / interested in:
1) Giant Yukon (had one many years ago - probably a '95!) 2009
2) Gary Fisher Wahoo 2010
3) Specialized Hardrock 2010
4) GT Avalanche 2.0 2009

She was looking at the Specialized Myka HT Comp 2010.

Anyone have any experience with these bikes? Perhaps some recommendations for amateur riders?

Some requirements i would LIKE would be disc brakes, shimano shifters (i do not like the SRAM ones), front suspension with the ability to lock out...

How are Jamis bikes?

TIA!

Depending on the size you might need, I have a few leftover Yukons on closeout.

We have sod a ton of these over the years. It is a great 1st Mt bike.

Be warned that if you get into the sport in a big way, this will not be your last bike.

jamis bikes seem to be good, i got one over trek only bc i got a killer deal on it, and it has been good to me so far

I would suggest if you can to check out Halter's and see J or Chris. They can put you on the ride that will best suit your riding style and budget. Also you may want to check out the Cannondales alot of people don't seem to like them, but personally I love mine and wouldn't give it up!

Quick Update...

I ended up ordering a 2010 19.5" Trek 4500 Special Edition...it should be in this week, and i am really excited to get back out there!

Not as flashy as a lot of your other bikes but it will do me justice. I don't want to be the guy out there with Big Bertha's, driving 150 yards, if you know what i mean! 😀

PS - Don't buy this bike if you plan on getting into the sport. The shifters, derailleurs, pedals, cranks, cassette, fork, all are pretty medicore at best...

The plusses are the, actually, i can't think of many other then the stealth looks of it, the price, and the Avid rotors are pretty good for mechanicals...

I tried to "buy" myself a new bike this past week in Vegas, but that did not work out as planned... :getsome:

No "i told you so's", thanks 😎

Woah dr superb. Chill. Everyone has something that suits their needs and their price. Nothing wrong having this he a bike that brings you back. Part of the sport/hobby is upgrading and learning. This stuff is equivalent to the SRAM x5 bike I just built for a family member. He rides it 3 days a week and couldn't thank me more.

Congrats! Enjoy the bike!

I am totally chill. I am not upset with my purchase, if that's what you think.

It's definetly a good bike to get into singletrack. I was just giving a heads up, and reiterating the fact as someone else mentioned, that if you plan on getting into the sport, it will not be your last bike. I believe they were talking about the Yukon, but same would hold true with this one.

I used to ride over 10 years ago on a very similar bike, component wise (well, equivalent to what they are now, with the exception of V brakes).

It's probably me getting too addicted too quickly that i want a new one in my "quiver" already. Plus with all the talk of big wheels and no gears doesnt help either. you people are bad influences. 😎

I have an 05' Trek 4500. The biggest problem that I find is that the darn thing will not break! I thought the frame and wheels would last no more than a year or two. Even driving into a parking garage with it on the roof did no more than loosen the star nut bolt. Heavy bike and Deore components are weak - but bombproof bike overall if you take care of it.

I had a 2009 GF Wahoo disc brakes. I just sold it too. But it was a great bike. I really don't have any complaints other than the pedals that were on it were crap. and the bontrager tires were not great either. I ripped the sidewall on my 3rd ride.

Everything else performed great. I beat the hell out of it and it took everything i threw at it.

Also I really like the Giant Yukon I think the brakes may be a step up along with the shifters but there is a reason why its a few hundred more than the wahoo. Either way if I didn't have my GF the Yukon would have gotten my vote. Bothe are great bikes, the Yukon may have some better components.

I've been riding an 06 Trek 4300 for a few years so I hear what you're saying. There is nothing wrong with it, but I'm ready to make the jump to something a bit lighter with stiffer cranks and a solid fork/wheel combo. And the bigger wheels too. Seems like I'm always pushing this purchase off by another year

I rode this thing for 4+ years before I made a step up. I couldnt kill the f##cking thing!!!
