loud motorcycle question

.

I've never written a loud bike. But if you tuck your plate so other motorists and I can't see it, I take offense to that and we'll probably have a convo if I'm not going to lunch/coffee. 🙂

Good luck and God speed.

If you see a bike hauling ass, do you even try to stop them or just think - You'll scrape him off the road in a little while?

I'm the opposite... I live near a busy road, and find the noise annoying at times. Of course, what's music to one person's ears can be noise to another's.

might be apples to oranges. Navesink River Road isnt really a "busy road". gets the occasional truck that rocks the house (I am one house in) but other than that its a two-lane collector. so road noise is not an issue. so, to me, the motorcycles arent adding to a cacophony, they are just providing some "aural color"

39:3-77 Unapproved Equipment or Devices

  1. No person shall sell, offer or use any unapproved device or equipment for use on a motor vehicle.

If you alter your muffler (remove baffling) or install a non-DOT approved muffler, this statute covers it, regardless of how loud it is.

Anything stock is legal - like the dual exhaust mode on the GT350?

IMO they're annoying as fuck. Nobody but you cares that the defining sound coming from your motorcycle is "cool"

That being said, there's not much you can do about it. I do tons of annoying shit as well.

Loud pipes lose rights. And make you a colossal shitstain in the process. The worst day of the year is the Kelsey Run, when all of the identically equipped individualists yearning to be a part time pirate rumble by making a sad spectacle of themselves. I never thought I would learn to hate a charity event but unfortunately grown men who still think leather vests and tassles are cool have made it happen. Rant over.

Fucking hate these small penis riders.
This is coming from someone with a motorcycle.
It's infuriating because those Harley 's make garbage for power and removing the mufflers does shit to help that.
But a better motorcycle.

I know many avid bikers. Had a neighbor who was amazing basket case transformer. Award winning '57 sportster. Fact is total asset of HD alone is around 10 billion on open market, I am sure a few cycle company's would like to have that. It's a life style and loud goes with it. Most of the people who can afford HDs these days are overweight mid life crisis with a want be attitude. Then again it is not much different in the cycling community now is it.

Ask them what they think of spandex wearing cyclist who ride 2-3 abreast.

That's kind of how putting a 3" straight pipe on a Honda 1.5L will make you power. Or how a high flow air filter will save you on gas money.

If they are speeding a bit but are riding safely otherwise, I'll usually give them a pass. If they are riding recklessly, I'll still give it a try and hope he gets a red light or hits traffic. If he takes off, he takes off and so be it. When I was much much younger (1999 I think), I pursued a cycle and he crashed into a parked car at about 60mph. He lost the use of his right arm and nearly lost the arm completely. I don't want to be the guy pursuing the dude who kills ends up killing himself. I get sued enough as it is. 🙂

Anything stock and sold in the USA. Correct. Weird, right?

@davidcarson48

How many times have you said fuck it with Motos?
I can count on two hands how many times I have ditched the five0 in my youngin days.

Ask @capedoc feels about these in New Hope.

Motos a few times, quads much more frequently. I like seeing them go down the RR tracks at about 80mph. It looks fun.

It's little dick syndrome , compensating with noise or a lifted truck

does this same principle apply to the bicycle realm, i.e. FAT BIKES?

just asking...

anyway, thanks for all the responses. I wasn't too confrontational. To give a complete picture, the guy on the Moto really could have kicked my ass so I wasn't going to really get into it with him. I looked like a complete dork - I was riding my KM ss with big apples and wearing cut off camo shorts, a camo baseball hat and camo gloves with a bright red pearl izumi jacket and my black shimano shoes and black socks so I probably deserved everything I got verbally from him just for what I was wearing. I - rode off when he told me to f...off and it didn't ruin my ride or day - it was so nice yesterday. I really enjoyed the riding weather all last week and today - got in some nice road rides.

I appreciate everyone's perspectives on this. far worse things to get agitated about, but like I said, I get the loud bike thing, especially with HD and that whole culture/image - heck, I am almost 50 and if I could I would be a long haired/long bearded southern rock band dude. I just wish the really, really loud bikes would be less loud.

and Matty, you are so right about the spandex crowd riding 3 abreast on the road. totally obnoxious. Same with the Moto guys weaving through traffic congestion or passing on the shoulder or going 100 mph down the road. no sympathy if they get dead. and then there are poor guys riding their bike to work or doing charity rides and just out riding and they get killed by cars. awful.

thanks for the feedback.

How much have you invested in your 25 year old Mitsubishi to improve its performance?
Thankfully it came equipped with hardware of this century, so it actually responds to modifications.
And I put on the largest muffler i could possibly fit on the car. Plus an additional baffle.
But it's still kinda loud. Because it actually makes power.
