I think I came in last. I wanted to get a reality check and this really did it for me...

Those of us who sat on our couches instead all tied for last. You were mid pack, solidly between the racers and us lazy slobs.

Yea it was a hard race. I made the "strategic" call to race my SS over my race bike since I thought it was going to be a mudfest and ruin my bike. It was not. One section was really muddy as it was pretty much a river but that was it. So since my race bike is clean now my body is shot. I know the SS is tough but for that place it's nuts. It was 1100 feet of climbing in 6.5 mile laps. I got sick of getting on and off my bike when it got steep. I got 6 laps in and rolled in satisfied that I finished and will clean up the SS bike and hang it up for racing. It was a fun experience but I missed my geared bike all day.

Major props to Ross and Jeff for dominating yesterday. They were second and third and raced really well.

I did this race yesterday (some of it anyway). I can tell you that the comments on how hard it is are not exaggerated. The rock garden was unlike anything I have ever ridden before. The 32-21 I ran was not nearly enough for the shape I'm currently in and after walking all the hills on the 4th lap I called it a day.

The course was great, it was well marked, the organization was great too and the food so good that I might come back just for that 🙂

I was wondering where you went. I think I saw you at the car and then you were gone. I was hoping everything went alright.

Christine showed me a photo of the podium, I was laughing over you looking happier than anyone else; now I realize it was relief to be done dealing with your SS.

Stoked to see three strong gents from our local scene go out there and represent.

Results are posted on the book of face on the Fast Forward Racing Productions page.

I'm not in the book of faces and while I can get to their page there I can't see where they have their results.
EDIT: My wife just sent me the results. I was 12 out of 14 but I think the last 2 guys must have abandoned due to technical problems since they did only 3 laps.

Yep. I was racing a lady in a pink outfit and an "experienced" guy in geared bikes the whole time. I was passing them in the few flatfish sections, catching them on the downhills and they were passing me on the hills riding while I was walking.
I was thinking all the time "I wish I have my fatty". I think I could have done at least one more lap on a geared bike and ride a lot more, but I really went there for a SS kick in the butt so I don't regret it.

BTW, nice job getting in 6 laps!

I stuck around for a while but the tiredness started to set in (I was really beat up) I had a 3:30 hr drive home so I left when they were sweeping the course. It was good to see you and speak with someone I knew before the race. After some time not racing this was feeling a bit like a first race even though I wasn't racing for anything 🙂

Thanks Ryan. You definitely made me work. Nice work on the SS.

Pampa- that was a tough course on any bike. Take it for whet it was...a good hard day on the bike. We're all stronger and better for having done it. Nice job getting in what you could. Next year you'll know what to expect and have a better time.

Thanks!

I now realize who you are, I had your screen name attached to a different person 😀 I also realized now you guys got 3rd & 4th. Great job!!! Next year I'll get in shape for this race :get some:

Pampa, if I knew who you were I would have introduced myself. I had a similar experience on Saturday. I think that was the most challenging course I've ever raced. That rock garden, I don't think I could have ridden even when I was younger and in shape! Same with the Beast.

I pretty much came in last, well except those that did less than 4 laps. I made the mistake of having my Garmin on autopause. So during the forth lap I thought I had plenty of time to get in the fifth lap so I was pacing myself instead of pushing. Live and learn!

Congrats to those that raced it, yet podiumed! It was worth the experience.

Hey Chemgirl, congrats on getting 4 laps in this tough course. See you around in some other race probably.
