MCP Trail Maintenance

Better late than never...

The June TM Session at Mercer County Park is Saturday, June 15th. We will be meeting in the marina parking lot by the volleyball courts at 9 am. Then we'll shuttle to the work area.

Most likely we will em-battle the dreaded Mercer thorns as the park is starting to need a hair cut.

Wear comfortable work clothes, Bring a drink. A sense of humor is also advised.

Tools and gloves will be supplied by JORBA

Come on out and give back to our trails. Score some karma points while having fun too!

See ya there!

-Mike

June TM Thanks.

Thanks to 8 brave volunteers we got a good start on the thorns and over growth in the Van Ness section this past Saturday.

A huge thanks to Tom, Chuck, Al, Dave, Beth, Michelle, Ming and yours truly 😀
Those gnarly thorns didn't stand a chance 🙂

Michael, I'm not sure if you saw my post under a different thread, but there's a double tree down on the blue trail between the single bridge and the boat house. Just thought I should let you know...

Thanks for all your hard work!

Mercer TM Session 8/18

The next TM session at Mercer County Park is Sunday 8/18. We are meeting at the marina at 7 am. Early bird gets.....

We will continue the summer trimming, this is your chance for some pay back on the thorns and face slappers. I also have some mud hole remediation in mind if we have enough volunteers.

Wear comfortable work clothes, Bring a drink. A sense of humor is also advised. 😉

Tools will be supplied by JORBA
Bring some gloves if you have them, I will have a limited supply available.

See ya there!

BUMP since I am going, some of you other dudes need to turn out! The trails are in great shape and this will make things wonderful for the fall and winter months. Come help out, get some good karma points and enjoy the trails without bleeding all fall!

I'd love to attack those thorns again:getsome: We put a hurt on them last Sunday! However I am on vacation - Strathmere beach. Mick is also on vacation. That's why Mike graciously accepted to be trail boss this TM... Have fun guys!

August TM thanks

Despite overcast skies and a small amount of rain at the start, 7 of us headed into the woods for 3.5 hours with power trimmers and hand tools to trim back thorns, vines, Russian olive and any other shrubbery in our way.
We heavily trimmed the red trail between the 911 monument and the West picnic area and hand trimmed part of Orange and some adjacent side trails. Also removed a recent blow down.
After we packed up the trimmers, I went back in solo with some digging tools to fix some mud holes that have been annoying me. As usual, I did not take any before pics. 🙄

One spot was all low and already widened so I dug drainage on one side and raised the tread.
The other spot was a corner that was eternally wet. The entire corner was 3x wider than the rest of the trail from people trying to avoid the slip-n-slide.
since it was all low ground with no where to run the water, I had to dig drainage to one side and raise the tread by making a berm with a small bench cut.

BIG thanks to:

For anyone interested, I'm planning on a pre-TM ride rolling at ~ 7 am so we can be back to the lot by 9.

Let me know in the comments if you plan to join the ride as well as the TM so I know whom to expect.

See ya there!

I am out, taking my mother in law to the Micheal Buble concert in philly for her 80th bday....now I know that sounds absurd, and it would be but it's just her and I and I actually like her! I missed her 80th bday party because I was at Raystown, so I got her these tix.....worked out for everyone, lol.
