Mercer County Park Conditions

Trees down at "1" and "2" markers. Photo of the first one is attached below so you can decide what kit is needed. The branches have made the trail impassable by bike or foot so need to walk into thorny bushes to get around. Also, the horizonal branch is directly over the trail and seems to have some widowmaker potential.

The second tree I think is the one that a previous poster referenced. That one is easy to ride around or walk around/over.

As always thank you for the good work that you do.

Thanks for the specific location info! We have TM on Sat. These may have to wait until I can get out during the week. The picture helps me a lot. That's not gonna be an easy one as it all must come down.

Couldn't get the brush hog out yesterday but I did a little trimming by the rowing center and also at the end of the upper blue trail where it meets the power lines. 🤘View attachment 249708View attachment 249709
Thanks Al! How many trimmer strings did you go thru? There is some gnar stuff hiding in that grass. I went thru 4 sets last time I cleared there. One day the hog needs to do the real job and set that margin back.

Got out there this afternoon...Wow was it warm! Both trees have been cleared. I used the Silky Katana Boy to cut.
The large tree still over the trail is firmly anchored into the standing tree with two branches.
It's not going to fall any time too soon. We can get that another day.

Thanks, Tom. Of course, after you cut one down tree another falls right nearby. That's exactly what happened on red less than 100 feet farther down the trail

. Go-around is in affect.

I see Al beat me to it. Here's the location at "1" marker:

This is kind of my bad. I saw this at some point after my original post with the "1" and "2" markers but before TAS cleaned them up. I thought this one was close enough that whoever would clear the nearby tree would see it.

Here's another angle of the new offender, looks like 2 x 10 inch logs and some smaller ones. The fallen branch is dried out.

All cleared! BTW... I love the way the trail flows here!
I walked that section and there are several more trees in the class of "could fall any minute".
Maybe Mick & I will take a walk with the saws in a week or so.

Al, You see anything else down on Red? I might get out there this afternoon. I know the locations based on the pics. Those look like head knockers for sure! Glad somebody put tape marker on them.

What a lovely afternoon! The low hanging trees in the previous posts have been removed. Forgot to take pics of the second group. Cleaned up a bunch other small stuff on my way out.

While walking back on red trail along the lake I heard what sounded like beautiful chimes ringing. It was small pieces of skim ice on the lake clinking from the waves of a gentle breeze.
Natures sounds are indeed beautiful.

Happy New Year!

Al, Thanks for the report and the grid location! That feature on the older map was certainly helpful. I may just take a copy over to the park maintenance dept. It's going to warm up later this week. I'll contact Mick and see if he's up to some saw work.

Rode yesterday there is stuff down most on the drag or handsaw get out of the way. One big one out by the dam berm trail that's runs along in the woods where in the past two big fall overs where.

Thanks for the report! Now that the temps are warming up a bit I'll try to clear that big one.
Can you better identify the trail and location? Orange trail is on top of the berm leading to the dam
Is the tree below the dam along the creek - Orange trail or on one leading to the dam... Red or Orange. See map

Downed tree was on Yellow trail. It has been removed. Beautiful afternoon... so I walked around and cleared a bunch of other small hangers and a tree on Red by the three rocks junction of red and yellow. Made it over into VanNest. Cleared the twisty connector trail between yellow and the swamp crossover trail. Ran into Mildly Wild and Brian.
