New job in NJ. Room rental, hotel?

I may be taking a very good job in NJ. One thing I will be responsible for is staying(at least for the 1st year or so) 2-3 nights/wk. I'll need to stain a 40 mile or so radius of Newark, Any thoughts on what would be reasonably cheap? I don't really need amenities and not against a room to rent. Just trying to sort details. An RV isn't really in the cards.

Dave - It's been a lifetime since I lived in that region, but back in the day, there were tons of studio apartments in Jersey City in the area around SPC (now SPU) and Jersey City State. I know that area changed a ton after 9/11 as a lot of the firms from the trade center moved across the bay and real estate near the waterfront went through the roof, but I'm talking areas on the west side - the area between JC and Bayonne, specifically. Might be worth looking into - could be a cheap (relatively speaking) option. No matter what, though, probably a good idea to look in college areas - the don't over-price and they'd probably appreciate a more stable renter than a college student.

There are a number of boarding houses in Summit. You can get your own bathroom but share a kitchen. I'll check if my friend's unit has any vacancies.

You know DT is taking a job on Wall Street.

Personally, I would move near Water Street if I were you. Close enough to walk in everyday but far enough removed so you can feel like a human for the several hours a day you are home.

Don’t take anyone’s shit, you are there to earn.

So it looks likely that ABNB may work out. Many rooms available for cheap. Realistically it's a place to take a shower, eat dinner and sleep. Bridgewater/somerville seem mohave plenty of options.

If you are in Newark to work... Just get a place in Newark. Do you plan to bring a car?
South Orange is building apartment buildings like they are going out of style.

Not sure if and how it has changed in the last few years since I lived there but Clifton may be a good option, cheap and close to Newark and relatively safe. Not sure about lodging as opposed to renting but if you get a cheap rental maybe a better option. Unless you need to be with the hipsters crowd then definitely Jersey City but you would have to pay for the proximity to bearded men of questionable sexuality wearing tight pants and walking small yapping dogs…
