new rider/member here :)

hello fellow new jersey mountain bikers 🙂

new to the site and the sport. just saying hello. was told about this site by the guys at Halter's Cycles in Monmouth Junction. I bought my Giant XTC 2 29er over there and have taken it out on a few rides around where I live (old bridge).

as a more in depth intro, I also make custom guitars and basses (as well as guitar pickups), work in manufacturing engineering as a CAD/CAM designer and programmer, I was once an Application Engineer for a CNC machine tool company and I sing in a Tool tribute band - the best one in the area 😉 😉 😉

if any riders know of any cool places, let me know. only places i've been so far are around the duhernal reservoir (mostly sandy trails but some decent stuff) and John A. Phillip's park which seems to be okay... nothing too technical and mostly flat but for a newb such as myself, it gets the sweat pouring 😱

welcome aboard, in old bridge you are right around the corner from 6 mile run and a bit north of allaire both parks have some sweet single track.
also check the rides section for information about guided tours and post up if you want a tour....

thanks for the warm welcome, everyone 🙂. I won't be able to make it that day because my band is playing at Dingbatz in Clifton that night and I need my beauty rest 😛. But if you guys aren't too worn out after the bike fest, it's a pretty straight shot down route 80 to catch a hell of a show 😉.

I'll definitely try to make it up there just to watch for a bit  but if I get up at 7 to make it there for 9, leave there, drive back down to old bridge to shower and nap and head back up to clifton i'll be exhausted for my show :drooling: LoL. I've heard Allaire and 6 mile are good trails... I'm waiting for my buddies to get off of their butts and come for a ride... at least i'll have someone else to granny gear with for a while until i get into better shape 😀

Welcome to the site!

I'm a pretty big Tool fan, so I'd be up for checking your band out. If you've got a website or something with a schedule, let me know!

Look for group rides or as Mike said, post up that you are looking for a tour of a park and I'm sure you'll find a someone willing to show you around. The Allaire beginner rides on Tuesdays are always a fun time!

Hope to see you out on the trails 😀

thanks dnap and michael 🙂. i'll definitely have to check out the group rides for sure. I just got back from taking a ride through phillip's park/preserve and i'm already eager to get back out there again 🙂.

If you guys want to check out my band you can look for us on youtube and facebook... I'm not sure how this site is about posting URLs but if you just put a /spiralouttoolband after each of the aforementioned .com's, you'll find us 😉. we're also on reverb nation... ok no more shameless plugs.

anyway, if anyone in the area hasn't checked it out yet, here's a map of the phillip's trails http://www.co.middlesex.nj.us/parksrecreation/Phillips Preserve Trail Map.pdf

not knowing what the other trail systems are like, I can't make any judgement on how good/bad they are only to say they're pretty flat and being as i'm pretty out of shape i don't find myself really flying through them 😱 but considering the fact that the map shows 5 miles of trails (most of which I have yet to travel) and it's less than a mile from home, it's my favorite so far 😉

Michael, where is the place you work located? It's not gaum inc over in robbinsville is it? 😛

Welcome aboard!

I too was once an Application Engineer for a CNC machine tool company so our paths have probably already crossed.

Michael, where is the place you work located? It's not gaum inc over in robbinsville is it? 😛

Nope, Not Gaum Inc but of course I know of them.....being down the street and all 😉

I work in Wall twp. for Blackhawk management corporation. They are a Govt contractor based out of Houston.

LoL yes, there are actually 3 of them... one is from houston, one is in dubai and we are from new jersey, obviously.

3 lions, which company? I worked for Mori Seiki from 2003 to 2008 and Maruka, the local Mori Seiki distributor, until late 2010

I worked for Gaum inc. back in 1998/1999... humble beginnings 😱

Welcome. I'd like to see some of this custom bass building you mentioned. Got a website for that?
