Wanted to thank you guys for building this resource, and to add that I will be coming to town 10/5-10/9. I was hoping to catch some NJ riding if there is a place I can rent a bike as well as easy trail access. I'm going to be staying in Teaneck NJ (just north of newark it looks like), and have daytime available on those days to check out what NJ has to offer.

Anyways, the more technical the trail the better, I would consider myself an intermediate to advanced rider, but I favor a good dh descent. I don't know if you guys are familiar with Phx riding at all, but South mountain is where I spend most of my time, if that helps you gauge what kind of trail I am looking for. Thanks guys

I'd check out Ringwood and/or Wawayanda State Parks, but you'll need a guide or you'll wind up with an ill-based conclusion that there's little singletrack.

how far are those from the teaneck area? Are there many riders that frequent these trails during the weekdays? I'd be willing to help out a guide w/ brew or money for an entertaining day. What would you guys do if you were in my position? I Know that I will need to rent a bike somewhere, and possibly even a car if the trails are too far.

I know there are a lot of questions so thanks again

you will need to drive at least 35 mins to get to any of the above mentioned trails. I have been riding weekends since getting my new job, so weekdays are tough or else i would be willing to show you around... (i live one town over from teaneck)

Can't really help with the bike rental or riding during the day time, but if you have to go alone, I would say try Jungle Habitat or Mahlon Dickerson. I think they are easier to navigate with the map over the other places. In terms of the # of people riding, I would say you have the best chance of running into someone at Lot C in Ringwood.

In terms of renting, you might want to call Cycle Craft or Marty's and see if they have anything. They're a bit of a drive from Teaneck, but they're some of the bigger stores in the area.

Blue mountain (NY) is also good for rocks and will be 1hr drive. It gets decent traffic. I think Sprain gets good MTB traffic also, but I haven't been there in a while.

Quite familiar with SoMo; lived on Baseline / McClintock for several years back in the day (90's). Unfortunately, I'm up to my eyeballs with work these days and don't believe I can sneak out during the weekday for a ride. If I do, it'll be a short notice thing. I'm quite familiar with Allamuchy which is comparable to Ringwood (IMHO) as far as technical trails and hillzz, but it is a bit of a hike from Teaneck.

BTW, what size are you looking to rent?
