Northern NJ CX Practice (formerly: "Summertime is CX workout time!")

I can bring a set of pvc barriers. I am definitely in now as long as my bike does not get stolen at Short Hills Mall.

Last night was really good. How many more people can we reasonably get here before we start to make people mad? I'd love to see another 10 people of mixed ability.

I ate shit on that corner by the BB courts, like many other people. After I slammed into the ground at like 20 mph (yeah, I know I'm sure it was 12) a few of the guys playing basketball let out an audible "ohhhhh" at that. As I crawled into bed later, my upper body let me know that it felt that.

My left finger is halfway on the road to being purple.

My right ankle was fairly stiff last night. Big gash on my left ankle.

I love this sport. Goddamn this is fun. Can't wait for next week.

It was a good time last night when I was able to ride. Unfortunately a flat tubular on my first lap. Norm, thanks for letting me borrow a wheel which lasted for a little while at least.

I loved hearing Cole in the background of the video cheering on his mother!

Alright! Thursday again, I should be in.

+1.

The fuzz has showed up both of the past two weeks and so far have been cool. I don't know how much I would push for a larger group size. They haven't cared yet, and if we don't tear the place up its seems like things will stay cool. But I can't imagine the town would be thrilled with an informal race of 20+.

Eric, how long did you keep these going last year? What's the plan for when it starts getting darker even earlier?

Not really sure how much longer we will have light. We can start earlier if people can make it in time.

I'm up for trying it with lights since most of us have them already. I can change the course to make it more conducive to darkness but I think it's a recipe for getting fuzzed.

There may be other nearby spots that would work for a night practice. Let me think on it.

There is some parks near me that have sports/fields and pathways that usually have the lights on until around 10pm. Some areas are less utilized. It would be about 15 minutes north and slightly east of the current spot, easy access from the major area roads. I can do some evening scouting and see about the feasibilty of setting up a decent course using the park lights. Not sure if there would be any interest but I will take a look and see it could be an option.

Good times...

Maybe the cop was cheering us on? He didnt seem to mind though.

I ran over a pear that was being eaten by a family of yellow jackets....I think I would have preferred crashing.

Crashing into one of the pear trees might have hurt a bit more though.

Thankfully no puppies were injured at the last practice. The off camber turn around the basketball court continues to be a favorite of all involved, but we must admit that the pears are the true stars of the show!!!

Cole really has to stop playing favorites..... 🙂

Lots of fun!

While no puppies were harmed a few humans are still feeling a bit sore, myself included. That off camber by the bb court got me too after the grass got dewey and I still can't bend my thumb.

We're back at it this Thursday to get revenge. Given that many of us will be racing the Nittany double we may change it up a little bit and focus on skills more than intensity. I'll throw in a few changes to keep people (and puppies) on their toes.

As always, all are welcome.

In for this week as well. I need to roll-test my tubulars- Eric, how about a mini clinic on turning technique? 😀:getsome:

I will not be rolling with my tubulars this week. Good old clinchers for me. Marty's ordered a new Fango for me and will be gluing it on Thursday. Is there a certain amount of time I should wait after gluing before riding on them?
