OOS MOGA

If you can ride HM like you did the other day, you can ride Blauvelt. HM is rockier. Blauvelt is not too bad on climbing and has lots of nice single-track. There are some unique historical artifacts along the way (old shooting ranges). The biggest climb is if they go up "Oh-Five" to "Barney Ruble". In which case, I suspect everybody on a beginner ride will be HAB'ing up. Don't worry, the "Ruble" isn't too bad.

Some info, map and video here:

How's Blauvelt? Looks like a beginner friendly ride is on for Sunday. Any thoughts? What's it like? Thanks

@C8N, can you add Stephens for 6/10 on the first posting?
Planning out the rest of June. July, have some commitments and will away most of August. October looks wide open though...
So I'll throw out these to see if there's interest, mostly Sundays since I usually see my parents on Saturdays in the city. But if weather works better on Saturday can be flexible.
Shit always happens along the way so don't hold me to any of these...

June 3: Lewis Morris
June 10: reserved for Stephens
June 17: Six Mile
June 24: Tourne
July 1: Deer Park
July 8: Mahlon Dickerson
July 15: Jungle

It can be 5/6ish doesn't matter. Earlier the better but no worries anytime is better than no time, right?

@C8N how you feel today?
I am just running into a string of bad luck... think got some sort of a infection in my right eye lid. There is some sort of a red bump...

Sorry to hear that. Heal up and hope you are back at it soon. Did you see a black cat walk by you lately? When you are up for a short ride hit me up.

Looks like another “race ride”..... no thanks

I do why you keep judging rides Nd the group's that host them without trying them out first. first the fun Friday rides and now this group.

If you try the rides out then feel free to comment but until you try them out...especially with this board people say fun or beginner and they mean it

I do not judge the rides, I judge the riders. I have been around this forum long enough to know who the hammer heads are. If you think there are not “fun” rides that did not turn into race rides because there were a couple racers in the group, I do not know what to tell you. I would even go so far as to say that at least one person on our “out of shape “ ride did not have such a good time this last weekend. FYI, when there is a rider in your group that has to stop, says he is light headed, needs more than 5 minutes to catch his breath, the pace is to high for that rider. Just my opinion.

this is fair, if the expectations are for the group to always stay together -

everyone climbs at a different rate - waiting at the top, or at intersections is expected on a fun ride. Then not leaving until recovered
and cleared by everyone. I don't mind waiting, and i don't mind waiting a long time if someone has to back it down a notch.
the wildcat crew waits for me - and it is appreciated. I put in my best effort, keeping safe, and not blowing up. at the same time,
they are having a conversation, and i can't make a two word sentence. That is my expectation for that ride, as it is intermediate and up.

riding the flats is a different story - if the group is getting spread out, it is too fast for the group. esp on a fun ride.

are your expectations different? (not experience - i know some rides get too fast, and either the group should split with experienced leaders for both, or
dial it back) an experienced sweeper also helps, since they can provide feedback to the leader. My club's no-drop road rides get good comments
from guests for being inclusive by using a sweeper that provides encouragement and a bit of a distraction on the climbs.

I don't know anything about this ride or the people in question, but I generally just ride at my own casual pace when I'm leading a group ride. I tell people not to worry about keeping up and just ride whatever they feel is a comfortable pace, and I'll stop to wait at any trail intersections. If someone was that out of breath on a ride like this, they should have just gone slower and spoken up if they needed more time to recover.

I've been to a very large number of beginner/out of shape/no drop rides over the years, and yeah, there are often a few people that want to go faster, but they showed up to a ride like that and should know how it works. If the ride isn't fast enough for them, they can go off and do their own thing. The only thing worse than that is when people show up and then criticize your planned route.

I have a meeting with a client at 2:30 then gotta pick up my bikes and get changed and will head over to Tourne. Most likely gonna be between 4-5, the eariler the better for me since I have to cut the grass after. I am also bringing my brother on the ride as well, gonna be his first time in a very long time, but he is in much better shape than me. Will post up a more accurate time when I know.
