Peezy's Black Magic 2013

ideally i would have replaced the closet flange and made it a pvc at new floor level. Why because the old closet flange tends to break bend when tightening down. the lead sleeve was your problem as you know and hence why wax and cone did not work. When I use old closet flange new floor i make sure to have 2 wax rings and long break off studs. I pull the tank off to make setting ez and apply the wax rings to the bottom of shitter and not to the closet flange. It is also most important to make sure the floor that the bowl sits on is absolutely level and free from any grout build up, nothing wost then a bowl that is loose because of uneven floor which will lead to more problems down the line...

It doesn't fit right because the tile floor is now higher, but the flange is in the same spot. Use 2 wax rings? Dunno. I'd sleeve it.

if the bowl needs to be leveled, or rocks, use composite shims to stabilize. once set, and confirmed not leaking, use a 100% silicone caulk to seal it to the floor.
(as Matty said, it would be preferable to not need the shims)

Contractor needed to finish, homeowners need to not have poop on the floor in 5 years 😉
Fuck it, stack the wax rings, get it done. Get moved in. It's not like it's any harder to fix later.

true dat but as i said i would have done a new closet flange and been done, more wax = no problems down the road just saying...

I think we are saying the same thing matty, I'd use the expanding closet flange insert. It's a positive attachment to the old pipe and easy to install for an extra ten bucks.

yup correct, had too many issues with old flanges...

quick sketch!
there are a couple of screw on the inside of the adapter that squeeze the rubber ring against the metal pipe. also, put a couple
of deck screws down from the top into the flange (there are screw holes) to secure to the floor.

i think the issue is that the current plastic piece on the wax rim is wider than the diameter of the lead sleeve insert, if i just make measure the lead insert and make sure it seals, shouldn't i be fine?

interesting, I may get one of these on of my flanges, which I had put one of the screw in replacement flages on with limited success

did you figure it out james? maybe you need to use a wax ring that doesn't have the plastic piece. you for sure need the extra thick/tall one. there are also 3" and 4" flanges. your's looks like a 4" though.

what you end up doing for the toilet flange?

We used the one fiodie showed. Did what Luke said and Mandis Pops cut the old lead sleeve out while I was at work, but it was a bigger project than we expected for sure.
