I went camping there in April of 09 and there are nice trails out there.
Brendan T. Byrne State Forest has more than 25 miles of marked trails. The Mount Misery Trail allows visitors the additional option of mountain biking.
The Batona Trail is almost 50 miles in length and links Brendan T. Byrne, Wharton, and Bass River State Forests.

This a map to show the area, but not the trail.

Is biking even legal there?

"Brendan T. Byrne State Forest has more than 25 miles of marked trails. The various trails and loops provide challenges ranging from long single track hiking trails to a trail accessible for people with disabilities. The Batona Trail is designed for hiking, cross country skiing, and snow shoeing (weather permitting). The Mount Misery Trail allows visitors the additional option of mountain biking, and the Cranberry Trail allows for access by wheelchairs in addition to all the other uses listed above."

Mount Misery Trail, great name.

Yes. The trails are marked. See lower right on the picture. And, it says on the NJ park site, This portion (Mount Misery Trail) of the Batona Trail is maintained by the NJ State Park Service.
All of the trails allow the visitor to enjoy the scenery and biological diversity of the Pine Barrens.

I have a video of me on the Mount Misery Trail. I will upload soon.
There is a cool bridge there that runs along the river. See pic.

I thought the batona trail was of limits to bikes. I have heard the the Mount Misery Trail. Any idea where a safe place to park would be?

NikkyE,
We park at Pakim Pond for riding the Mt. Misery trail. Some people park at the ranger station and ride the Cranberry(red blazes) trail which is the ADA trail to pick up the Mt. Misery(white blazes) trail.
It is a relatively flat trail and only has a few places to worry about. There is a patch of sugar sand that is a real workout when it is dry. It is about 300 yards. The other is a section that crosses a bog channel and can be very wet.
We do night rides out here and it is a good place to take night riding beginners.

You are right, It's not for bikes. But, if you walk your bike through😉, you will see in the picture above, the batona trail takes you to the bike trail. Plus, I did see more bike markers out there.

There is a big parking lot 100 feet from the bridge.

Scroll to the left and you will see the lot.

COOL! I know exactly where that is.

John,
I'm still not ready to ride in these cold temps we're seeing at night. It was either buy cold weather gear or go clipless. I went clipless. I hope to have warmer riding clothes after the holidays.

NikkyE,
No problem, we will be riding all winter. Good luck with the clipless.
