Rattling 50 MTB Marathon and 25 mile XC (8/22/10)

Hey yinzers,

Just a quick note to say that there is a swell mtb marathon event going on in near Elizabethville and Lykens, PA next weekend that I bet a bunch of you would get a fine kick in the pants out of.

One big ol climb to start things off and then you're rolling on top of a wide central PA ridge for miles and miles and miles. Oughta be a good SS course except perhaps for that start climb, but at least you get that out of the way early.

I like the idea of 50 miles on my SS. I did around 35 on it on Thursday last week. Of course, that included stopping for pie.
 
Yep, drive time is exactly why the start for this 50 is 10AM and not 9 or 8 or buttcrack of dawn. Yes, still early departure, but you could sleep at home anywhere in NJ and still rock the drive.

3:00 from Newark
2:45 from Trenton
all according to Google

And, check the bikereg stuff - free camping just down the road in the next town over if you want to spin out on Saturday instead. I'll get directions up for there tomorrow or next day.

Actually, 10 is about crackin' it for me so that's really why it's 10. Don't let me fool you.

When I did this a few years the camping was right at the scout camp. No longer the case? It was pretty sweet having a bungalow all to myself to crash in.
 
Yea, no Girl Scount camp this year. The Lykens Boro is pretty psyched about this event and we'll be starting from town in future years so we're trying camping at their nice park this year. No showers at the park, but they've also opened up the community pool for racers for showers. Plus the town is contributing some of the aid station supplies. So far it is a nice relationship and I think it is only going to make the event better in coming years.
 
Registered. This one is going to hurt with the lack of riding I have been doing. Who else is in? Dustin?

Just a quick note to say thanks to all you guys from Jersey who made the trip to PA last weekend for the Rattling 50. I took some pics while trying to stay in front of the race with the lead vehicle. I'll get 'em up and let you know where I stuck 'em. We're already looking forward to next year.

On that note the local town, Lykens, is way pumped up about the race weekend (we did a 25k trail run on Sat) and is looking forward to taking a bigger role in 2011. We're planning to start and finish this puppy on main street and add in a few (3-8) miles of singletrack between now and then to get us right into town.

I'll do my best to keep you all posted - and bump this thread up - every now and then.
