Round Valley Conditions

I have to be careful what I say here. But generally speaking, I'm happy to drop into other parks that've been badly hit. But now that we're in summer, my schedule is slammed, so it's really tough to make commitments (and keep up with the parks I'm already doing). Two other caveats; I'd want an accurate target list, with pics and waypoints, to make the most efficient use of my time. And somebody to accompany me as a helper (aka "swamper") who's familiar with the trails and where these targets are. I've never been there, highly dependant on Trailforks.

Awesome. Thanks for what you do!

Happy to meet you! I've been hitting it pretty hard in the last few years, and have climbed enough of the learning curve where I might actually have some helpful advice to other Mt biking sawyers. Still learning though.

I saw 3 today that I couldn't get with the folding saw. They are all on the red trail in order from the parking lot. I was able to get all the way to the opposite side and didn't see anything else. Park could use a hand prune for stickers.

You can get through this one, but it could probably use some attention.

Awesome. Thanks!

Ok, all the trees are gone. But this place is a total mess. Total garbage. As Kirt said to me, Beyond Reasonable Repair.

Some of these trails are washed out like I have never seen before. With the rain storms increasing in strength lately, these fall line trails are taking the brunt of it. I have never seen the park washed out as badly as it is right now. Given the limited interest in the park, and the park office's lack of desire to answer the phone or respond to an email, I do not see this place getting better.

I would say that it is now in a state of needing major reconstructive surgery to be worth much of anything. At this point, I would more or less call it an eBike park.

Also of note - it appears the park did actually go through and cut out all the trees at some point. Even the huge logover at the top of Puke Hill has been cut out. So the park is literally free of deadfall from front to back.

yeah.

I got there a little before @Norm, cause when I got back to the lot

I cut one out of Cush,

and removed a bunch of smaller stuff up the Z climb.

Over the top doing a reverse roller coaster I came across this

what you don't see is the other two large leads behind it.
It fell right on the top of this...

anyway - 40ish minutes later, the 14" chain saw did its job.

I rode out to the pavilion and was extremely disappointed, as it ruined my 'where did you ride today?' photo

Rode the ridge trail back, and it was clear. Was planning on parking at the Cornhusker Park lot to ride in the back gate, but I guess I don't have to now.

I know the link from the dam access road to the south lot is a mess. It isn't really a trail anyway.
The climb out of the south dam to the road (Powerline Switchbacks) is always overgrown.
And right now - it is all overgrown.

Will start working on the 2025 NJ E-Bike festival soon.

So.

Despite my temper tantrum above, I reached out to the park super today and explained what I saw yesterday. Turns out the new super from last year is now the newest old super. There’s a new one in place this year.

So this may be good news. But the bad news is that the new super was the volunteer coordinator last year. This is one of the people who would not take/return my calls nor my emails. Maybe it’s a new year.

So there’s that.

Just like with any company, bad service or responses only get attention when the person above said person gets involved. Unfortunately with the state, it's likely that they don't care either. Its a sad state

Start trashing the parks system on Social Media. Companies hate bad press.

Thanks to the person or people that trimmed RV. I rode out with my hedge trimmer to do some work on the switch backs and maybe some of the flat above puke that @Norm trimmed last year. Most of it was trimmed back. The spot @Norm

Trimmed last year could use a little more string trimmer work. Also a few trees down out towards the Cush side where the rock wall is. I only had a hedge trimmer. If it was the park super thanks should be given.

I'm going to get the trees next week. Not sure who else is trimming, you and "they" are much appreciated.

Well it’s that time of the year again.

Has anyone been here recently and if so, how is it? I’m really asking about trees down. Are they still blocking the boat launch lot?

Not sure about the boat launch access, I don’t normally start there. Overall the place is in good RV shape. Couple of trees down out along the rock wall. One you have to climb over, one you can ride the rocks around and one duck under. A few others down here and there but it is what it is. I don’t own an electric saw and park doesn’t seem concerned. We’ve been riding there pretty consistently last month or two
