The SiriusXM satellite or geostationary so they hover over the same spot all the time so there’s no change in coverage. The only seasonal difference I tend to notice is in the summer when there’s full leaf coverage. Sometimes if I’m in an area that doesn’t have a clear view to the sky, it will drop out. I wonder if any of the recent Geo magnetic storms are having an impact on the signal?
Or, maybe there’s a loose antenna connection?
Our '07 Honda CR-V lately has been having in/out signal issues occasionally. Turn off the the radio, then turn it back on and it works fine. It's a pre-merger XM radio and since you mention ground repeaters, that might be the cause. This is true - there are stationary satellites and ground repeaters for XM based technology.
One of the repeaters could be offline, or your radio didn't get an update (keys to a new repeater) - not sure how to force it.
Maybe out of the customer portal?
Sirius technology is a constellation of satellites in a tundra orbit. Go ahead and geek out on that one!
They launch out of Kazikstan - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baikonur_Cosmodrome
I think they are phasing these out - although Canada won't be happy -
There is a signal shadow at the traffic light at Wegmans Bridgewater.
Also, the plans come with the app - which has more music on it than the satellite.
Might try that?
Maybe it’s the drones?
The whole reason I have SXM is so I can listen to something driving up to Vermont where terrestrial radio is very spotty. My finger used to cramp up hitting the SEEK button on the radio non stop! I do use the SXM streaming at home however. If you are following in the news, SXM has decided to move away from streaming to focus on the auto (even if delivered via cell service) - then offer streaming as a side service.
My wife was the victim of a reduction in force, because streaming platform was going to eliminate her job - that was Feb, in anticipation of a June transition.
The transition never happened - they just fired the Chief Techology Officer, who championed the transition (he came from Disney online) after a multi year contract which delivered almost nothing. firing his organization and re-aligning is a $200,000,000/yr savings. But they lost all of the old knowledge!
I scratch my head. Their advantage was being in the car, and coast-to-coast (mostly) - why would you decide to compete against all the established streaming services??
And as I mentioned above, when the LEO satellites start doing 5G data service, they could lose that advantage too.
So why is Berkshire pumping money in? He had to know this was coming.
He wants in the car? Maybe - SXM provices OEM branded service like OnStar to other car companies.
That is the Telematics vertical - with the merging of self driving? I dunno?
Oh, watch for SXM to provide a few free ad-supported stations in the future.
Since the streaming is included with my subscriptions, I use it at school. I'm not paying for Spotify/another streaming service...I know, I'm one of the few who doesn't really use Spotify?? or at least pay for it?
What's the latest best deal? Just got an email that my $4.99 Platinum plan will be $24.99 starting in May. If I click to cancel it offers $8.49.
This is why I dropped SXM for good and just use YouTube Music which I already have at no added cost. YTM play more songs I like FTWhonestly, if thats a 'permanent' rate i might take it just to save the mental gymnastics, iv been paying $4.99/month (yearly of course) for almost 8 years now, but im getting sick of the game.
