Yeah, I was thinking about some of my boards from the past (not to mention the narrow stance and carving angles) - the new tech is so much better.

Another thing I've noticed with snowboards, and it seems like Burton is right on point, are the kids boards. I bought my daughter a Burton Feel Good last summer - reverse camber, super light, very flexy board that I am sure has helped her learn riding more easily. Some say the reverse camber is cheating but for the smaller kids I think it's a little safer by not catching edges and their legs are not strong enough to get that board to flex to carve.

I concur - Snowboarding is definitely more difficult that skiing the first few times, however, if you want to ride a snowboard - keep with it. After a few days, it will magically click and you will be hooked. My point is to choose what sport you think you want to go with and do it and stick with it. Skiing and Snowboarding are very different, however, the fun to be had is equal

Looks like people are talking about the whole beginner thing here quite a bit so i won't rehash that, but longer term stuff to consider >

as a snowboarder Depending on your bindings you'll need to add a few minutes of fussing about at the top of each run before you're ready to go... if you're out doing speed runs on a morning session this is bad

i have heard from boarders that at the end of a long day neck pains are an issue as you're facing down your strong side usually...

i think that boarding is more stable at high speeds but this is jsut a theory of mine


lastly doesn't matter if you board or ski, DO NOT move up to the blacks to be cool if you're just gonna plow/pizza pie all the way down and make ice =[ plz don't do it!

was at jack front a week ago and these kids on 'boards just inched down perpendicular to the steepest part of the slope =\ ruined it

board riders don't hate skiers. it's actually the other way around most of the times. are you saying riders can't destroy those bumps like that guy in the clip? 😉
 
I just left Baldface Lodge in BC. 1/2 of the cat was on skis and 1/2 on boards.

We gelled really well and had a ton of fun pushing each other to launch off everything we could find.

We spoke at length about how skiers and boarders see the mt differently and how fun it can be to share the flow with each other.

There is no better way to get down the hill. I promise we each smiled just as big.

We got super lucky on the conditions. 2 days were truly bottomless.

Saw Brian Iguchi and Jamie Lynn up there too. So cool to see the guys who I have been seeing in mags forever.

O man - jealous! I need to get back up there - the timing and funds just were not happening this season.

So sick that Guch and Jamie Lynn were there. Those guys are legends. Did you get to ride with them at all? I heard there is lots of filming going on up there.

Who was your guide/guides from Ice Creek Lodge. The guys I had years ago were saying they were starting or had already started a backcountry skiing operation.

Russell Hulbert was my lead guide. He is the owner of Ice Creek. Such a total pro.

We just saw the whole Volcom crew there at the transfer.

TRG was there a few weeks back.

No one or thing can demolish bumps like the Hammer does!

Yeah, I hear more "talk" from random skiiers on snowboarders than vice versa like you said. But as far as bumps go, a skiier will usually make better work on them than a snowboarder. For me, I rail the edges of bumps runs and tuck into the woods when I have a chance.

Very cool - Russ (and Chev Rox) were our cat's guides - and yes, total pro as well as a freakin' animal. For such a small dude he packs a lot of power. From what I remember he's just as pro with wood and a chainsaw, I think he said he did a lot of lodge building up there.

I found a couple of pics - one of Russ ripping a turn and one of the chainsaw masters including Russ and Chev. LMK if it's the same guy as I don't remember his last name.

TRG and Volcom? - bananas!

i agree with you that skiers USUALLY are better, but i've seen some dudes rip those bumps on boards better than some skiers out there. nothing to compare against skiers in mogul competitions, but in general some riders can hang, just saying 😀

yeah, me too.

i'm sure a few of you are in the same boat as me, but when i started skiers REALLY hated snowboards and snowboarders. it was like we were trespassing on their turf. i so remember standing in a lift line somewhere back in the day, maybe it was stratton, and some lady turning around and saying to me and my buddy "i can't stand you people and those damn boards of yours. they should throw all of you off this mountain"

i don't go enough to know if it's like that or not anymore. quite frankly, i don't give a sh!t. my main objective is to have fun and stay as far away as possible from anyone in jeans or a black "team" jacket. especially if it's a jets or eagles jacket. those two have always seemed to be the worst.

oh- and i love the bumps. i started riding them just because people used to say snowboarders couldn't do it.

took the words out of my mouth...unfortunately there are still places not open to snowboarding like Mad River Glen and Alta, i believe...it sucks..but it definetly seems like the animosity is one way.

honest im prettymuch through with the whole resort deal. yeah its nice to just bang out tons of runs in a day if theres powder...but riding trails is just no fun. im sure out west id have a different opinion..but for being on the east i plan on sticking to more backcountry trips
 
I myself prefer skiing.Having said that I have never tried snowboarding.With my 30 plus years of experience I have never felt the urge to try.I am not a hater at all, just have always had too much fun on 2 sticks.I have seen some violent wip-outs by boarders who were not even going fast at all.As long as you are out there having fun on the mountain,who cares what equipment you are on.🙂

you should have seen me wipe out when i learned to ski!!!

halfway down the mtn on my face/head with at least 3 or 4 people stopping by to see if I was ok/alive heheeh

But yah moral of the story is no matter what you ski, if you are new or suck STAY OFF THE GOOD STUFF

Also get quick/fast bindings if you're a boarder and want to ski with skiiers
