So... how about the wind?

Quite windy out there today, eh? There are many branches all about The Rock. So be careful and wear a helmet so, you know, a branch doesn't fall on your head... 😉

Seriously though, everyone be safe out there!

I've never heard of a tree falling on a person, but someone on a different forum talked about seeing/hearing a big tree fall in the woods while he was riding. I heard a few small branching falling while I was riding today. Be careful out there 😀

holy sh*t who woulda thunk in central park ..

Sometimes...it's just your time to go! Wow.

I had a tree fall over right next to me standing in the parking lot of my apartment. I head the crack, started to run for cover, and then realized it was falling into the woods and not into the parking lot. It scared the crap out of me.

I got hung up on a technical climb coming out of Anrothar's Alley last year, fell/stepped off the bike, grabbed a tree (about 10-11" diameter) to keep myself from going ass-over-tea-kettle down the hill, and the TREE FELL DOWN!!! Fortunately, it didn't end up landing on me, but puckered they hell out of my (and the guy riding with me's) butt!!

I've had other close calls at Mahlon with high winds and branches flying around...so I avoid riding up there on windy days now. And I hate riding road when the winds are high and gusty...so...well...tater day for me!

Yesterday at French Creek, there was some branches 4-5" in diameter at least falling off the trees along the course. You know the sound of trees creaking and clanking in the wind? Well they were making sounds more like Barry Bonds hitting an out of the park homer yesterday. Pretty scary stuff. Then, on our second lap, there was what looked like a whole tree fallen over, just off the fire road.

Everybody up north know to head for High Point Monument for some fun in the wind.

mr pixy is at the monunment this weekend getting chain saw certified with NYNJTC. If trees fall, I guess there will be bunch of eager white haired types ready to cut em up. :hmmm:

i was running at 6mr on saturday and saw a fairly large tree topple. it was off to the side but i heard splintering, looked over and saw an old dry tree split in half and topple.

intense!

i was at Lewis Morris on saturday and saw a bunch of dried up branches hanging right over the trail, i grabbed a few i could reach and moved them off but with the wind i wouldn't be surprised if someone took a branch to the helmet. I heard a whole bunch of noises, i was actually hoping it was a falling tree or branches and not a bear, at least a tree will not chase you down and tear you to shreds.

Back in September 2002 a woman was killed by a falling branch at Lewis Morris Park. It is sad, but it does happen. I usually stay out of the woods on days where the winds are very strong.

I was at waywayonda today,I pulled a branch out of the ground in the middle of the trail, that was stuck fairly solidly into the ground at least 5-6 inches deep,it took a couple of seconds for me to realized that it had fallen from a tree because of the wind.
