Cooking Oil Embargo on China

President Trump may halt cooking oil trade with China in response to Beijing’s refusal to buy U.S. soybeans since May 2025. China previously purchased 27 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans worth $12.8 billion in 2024 but now sources them from Brazil and Argentina.

The U.S. agreed to a $20 billion currency swap with Argentina, which suspended soybean export taxes. Trump cited China’s actions as economically hostile and proposed cutting cooking oil imports, despite China’s record exports of used cooking oil, with the U.S. buying 43% of it.

Trade tensions escalated as Trump threatened doubled tariffs from November 1. China’s economy shows deflation and weak demand amid ongoing disputes.

I had an idea - we can save the farmers by eating more soy bean products.
no need for a bailout.
solves a bunch of problems.

now about that biodiesel.
if we can have McDonalds sell fried mcTofu, we would be able to replace the used cooking oil import problem locally.
