Tariffs...what to make of them.

So, how will this play out? There are already hundreds of lawsuits from companies challenging the legality of the tariffs. Expect even more to come, including from some companies that lost a ton of money or went out of business because of the tariffs. If they're successful, some will end up with windfalls since they passed on the cost of tariffs to consumers or other buyers. Will there then be class action suits on behalf of consumers since they're the ones who ultimately paid for the tariffs? Also, tariff revenue is included in the national budget. Might need to redo that...

My thoughts, and pretty sure it'll likely go this way:
-There will be lawsuits. There's some LARGE companies with big $$ here.
-In reality the refunds don't need to be that complex if they have a tax form for Illegal Tariff Tax Paid. Should be very easy to calculate the tax paid during the fiscal year and we'll likely see this broken out as a single document by customs.
-Most of us won't see any $$ because we didn't pay the taxes, the importers did. So it'll be a windfall for all those companies. It'll be a documentation issue for all us small people. Do we itemize our online purchases of bike parts from Europe etc? Definitely worth it if you buy a $1k frame and get hit with a $400 tariff tax.
-We'll be stuck with the higher prices.

Yes - I mean the programs that people pay for that actually *expedite* things at screening so they can travel and get their jobs done - clearly those must be the first to be frozen. TAKE THAT you snowflake libs. Those expensive deportation planes aren't gonna pay for themselves...

And as an unintended consequence

Overwork the others and see what makes it through....

thats been the case for a while now, where have you been?
Apparently we were both wrong. There was just "confusion" over this and we apparently interpreted what Kristi Noem was saying incorrectly about this.

So now it's just a case-by-case basis...

Well, that's clearly why it was walked back. It's 100% transparent what they were doing.

A nonstop parade of special guests at last night's SOTU to get everyone clapping, even if by shaming one side into doing so. Thought he'd bring out kittens and puppies next. "YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED! NOT CLAPPING FOR KITTENS AND PUPPIES!" No policy content, besides wanting to replace income tax with tariffs. Bonkers.

nt, besides wanting to replace income tax with tariffs.

wait, there aren't going to be any tariffs because all the mfg/sourcing is coming back?

or put another way - say a high earner needs a phone, and they spend the same as an average earner.
Then the tax bracket is reversed, since the phone has some fixed tariff on it??

before the orange morons speech:
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi:

Followed by Trump wanting to head the "secret" words

"They want to make a deal, but we haven't heard those secret words: 'We will never have a nuclear weapon."

Then of course:

"Witkoff says Iran ‘a week away’ from nuclear bombmaking material"

God this is such a joke....here comes the Iraq WMDs upsell....we didnt send two carrier strike groups over there for a moonlit cruise....we need to blow some shit up.
