The 2025 Lawn Thread

Well, after 3.5 years of no maintenance and no issues, i finally had one with my EGO mower. Well, really just the battery. 1 battery seems to have gone bad (just a few months after the 3-year warranty is up of course). Charger says it's fully charged. Put it in the mower and it last all of a couple seconds before mower says "battery is dead" with the red light and stops. I have a 2nd battery which works fine so i know it's the 1 battery and not the mower. Bought a new battery today but holy crap they're expensive ($250!). Any ideas for this bad battery?
The amazon knock offs of the ego+ batteries are legit and 1/3 the cost if you need an extra.

i saw that, but didn't trust them since the EGO one only lasted 3 years and i dont want that to be an excuse if i have a problem with the actual mower or charger.

So the mower takes two batteries?
What happens if the older one drains faster than the new one? Half power or shuts down?

Yes, mower takes 2 batteries but power is basically the same whether you run 1 or 2 - it's just runtime that changes. Mower can run on 1, 2 or 1.5 batteries. 1 battery runs around 30-60min depending how tough the grass is and if you use self-propel (or headlight!). 2 batteries can do 1.5-2 hours - exactly what i need to finish my whole lawn.

You contact EGO? Sounds like your battery is past the warranty by 6 months, but maybe they'd do something for you?

No. If i find time/patience maybe i will.
UPDATE! I did call Ego - they basically had me do some kind of button pushing sequence on the battery power button and voila! Back in action! Fully charged and lasted 40 minutes mowing long grass yesterday. Now that i Google, there are actually multiple "battery reset" procedures on the internet but they're not all the same and not what Ego told me to do.

OK - it is the second half of July - stop with the rain-sun thing.
6 days between cuts. blades need sharpening.

I'm still doing two weeks between cuts, just been too busy to do it more than that. Definitely some spots that bog down the mower

Mines slow this season, but I haven't been feeding either. Usually every 4-5 days but this year, once a week

My lawn is browning nicely in typical dog pee and seasonal dry out areas. Crab grass filling in usual spots taking over / pissing off the broad leaf which makes me marginally happy. So long as married i'm stuck with a wife driven chemical restriction due to previously mentioned dogs. Weed whacker mostly directed toward trail maintenance currently 🙃

My riding mower died this spring and w/o a proper mower I have been letting my lawn grow a foot high and then I borrow my neighbor's "deather mower"

This thing is scary fast and a beast to run. My snowboarding muscles came awake to run this thing and my back was sore for a day.

Certainly not a relaxing machine to run.. More spicyIMG_2479.jpeg

than I thought mowing could ever be...

I always liked running these. Just don't let your hand slip off one handle lol

Does that mower have ODI grips?

After all the tree work that got done and now the sun on our lawn, the moss has been dying out and the clover seed I threw down has mostly taken over. I really miss having the non-mow lawn. When I don't mow it the clover doesn't look too bad but mowed definitely looks better. Way better than grass.

they look like OURY grips actually

Got around to sharpening the blades - cuts much cleaner now.
Fewer clumps, and no haze to the top of the grass where the blades were ripped off
