The DIY thread - DIYourself

Needed a spot to conveniently store my cordless stuff. The tools are always either in the way, or buried somewhere on a shelf or bench. Need to get a saw track for my shop. Would have been slightly easier with a table saw.

Along with everything else, getting more organized is a 2022 goal.

Built a live edge bar last year . Wife wanted glass shelves on the wall behind with scalloped edges to match. Got a quote of $300 per 7"×24" with scalloped edges. A few you-tube videos, a 200 dollar tool and a friend's broken table top later, and I have 5 of these done.

Now custom brackets...

My son Jason has been hounding me to drag out the portable hoop for days. At halftime of the ND game we went down and checked it out and the backboard has cracked at the rim mount. Normally I can fix just about anything, and this is no exception, but prolly not worth the time and effort, and a life lesson maybe for him as to when to say when.

Anyone got an outside hoop (specifically just need the backboard) they’re not using and want to pay forward? Local to Edison is nice, wil consider traveling for the right fix.

Thanks.

Edit: here’s a back view of the exact one we need , however anything close I could prolly make work.

Maybe installing a metal plate slightly larger than the rim mount behind it? You have a few inches before it interferes with the ball contact area, so you can sandwich the backboard between two metal plates if necessary.

If you keep an eye on Craigslist or FB marketplace I see these come up for free or cheap pretty often.

The downside is you probably have to haul the whole thing home and not just the backboard.

On a related note when I had to buy just a replacement backboard for when my son broke the neighbors it was $75. Just depends if you want to pay for the convenience of a new one or not.

Exactly... plus a few other projects I have in mind....
I've had 2 table saws over the past few years. The first one, a shitty table top Ryobi, I traded for a bench grinder. The second was a stand mounted Craftsman, which I gave to my future FIL cause his 20 year old one died - with the stipulation that I get a lifetime of free cuts. Since then I've eyed up this same saw due to the reduced storage space. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, just cause a few cuts here and there I can justify it. Possibly thinking of just getting a track for my circular saw.
