and would like to keep/increase their wealth.
 
Reading I Will Teach You To Be Rich by Ramit Sethi. If someone needs a jump start into financial literacy/Financial Independence, it's a great book. Probably should be required reading for young adults. Outlines how to optimize most of the common downfalls (retirement accounts, credit cards, saving etc.). Doesn't get super preachy about cutting out your daily latte either.
 
Way back when, The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley really made an impression. I was surprised to learn my hard charging investment banker neighbor was a big fan. I was subsequently NOT surprised when after 9/11, which he witnessed live, he decided to retire and move to FL. At 39yo or so. Google tells me he has done a number of things since but because he felt like it, not because he needed to.
 
I've said before I don't consider real estate an investment unless one owns rental properties, making money on your home is hit or miss/luck unless you stay in the same place for 20+ years. But holy crap the market is taking off down here, especially in our community now that the builder is almost done. A house down the street the same as ours is selling for 25% more than what we paid less than 4 years ago. Doesn't really matter to us as we will likely never sell

Market is just stupid across the country right now. Houses directly next to us sold for $200k and $125k more than we paid 2 years ago. If we didn't mind going back to renting we'd probably consider selling and moving back to Summit or something.
 
Kalmyk the Elder plays AAU/EYBL basketball $$$ and its expensive heavy on time.

Kalmyk the Younger plays little league and other parents are pushing me to sign him up for travel. At 8 years old, no way im diving into that gun show 💩💩

Yup - and then private lessons, weekend tournaments all summer.
Then you find the coach has a private instruction at the next level - so you sign him up and he makes the team
(see the private instruction worked!)

OTOH - met a ton of fun parents - all of us just hoping the kids makes some friends and have a good time.

I still train my son. The expense is on the team and travel. Ive been to four tournaments so far this spring and have seven more on the calendar. Its easily a $500 weekend or more.
 
We told our son he was limited to one sport per season and no travel teams. He lived. He's joined an intramural sports league where he lives, mostly to meet girls. They play a different sport each week, so I guess the pattern lives on.
 
We’ve made a ton of money on every house we’ve sold, including this year. Our new house is already there too, we just don’t plan to move.

Kids are adult so no sports anymore, but I dump money into new school BMX bikes that I ride literally every single day. It’s my mental nirvana, stress-relief mode. Besides, I made so much money selling my old school BMX collection, the new bikes were free, and somehow they’re also invisible to my wife!
 
One kid in travel Baseball and the other in soccer. Yea it’s expensive, and yes I go days with hardly seeing my wife, and yes Chick-fil-A and chipotle get old, and yes baseball bats are like $400 and last a season….
