the new bikes were free, and somehow they’re also invisible to my wife!
Reminds me of a story a teammate told some years ago when he was riding moto dirt bikes (I think he had a Yamaha at the time). As a favor, he stored a friend's street bike (Honda) in their garage. It went unnoticed for some time until one day his wife asked him, "I thought your bike was blue?"

Also... that he somehow convinced his wife that riding dirt bikes on a motocross track was somehow safer than riding DH will forever be one of the best exercises in mental gymnastics I've ever heard of... granted, when I first met them, she was also racing DH, so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

There was a period where i kept buying the same color frames to avoid such comments. It seemed to work because as soon as it changed to different color there was a comment “where did that one come from” within a few days

this has been my technique as well.
