The Not BIYF January Ride Thread

1/2 - Zwift (Climb Portal) - 1:00:42

The previous day's question is: can I get back to where I once was? The current question is: do you want to? As one skis all day at Tremblant and pounds the living shit out of a bowl of poutine at the end of the day, it does make you wonder. But that's not the end all, be all of the conversation. Today, I rode at lunch because I was tapped out on this day, this day that is the first day back at work. So I missed my 7:30am ride and decided to knock out an hour at lunch. I had my target wattage set, and boy was that not happening today. I did a decent job of building up to it for 40 minutes or so, then decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze.

This is a change from the previous me. In the past, I would have toughed it out, forced myself to hit that wattage, almost surely to the detriment of the overall goals. This is what they like to call junk miles, or ineffective training. The thing is, in the amateur world, this is totally fine. You can totally get away with it and do well. You can show up to races less than 100% and do very well. I did it for years. We're not at a level here where this stuff the talking heads say makes much of a difference to us. On this stage, you ride 12+ hours a week, you will be a contender. That is, until your Peter Principle yourself into mediocrity, like yours truly.

So today I dialed it back, and watched Walter White and Jesse Pinkman make a bigger CF out of their existing CF as season 4 comes to a close. And I just rode out the day, taking what the day gave me. Spoiler alert: it wasn't a lot.

Tuesday on a Friday but getting back into the normal weekday routine. Nothing much to speak of other than a tree down on a dh that i just barely crashed into. This coffee shop has coffee happy hour from 6-7 so i got coffee for a buck.

Hmm, guessing there's an inflection in my post that was not intended.

I am looking for a reason to join this. If there's some nominal reason to post pics & words, I will. If not, I'll just post random pics of turtles and chessboards.

This may be a better place for what you are looking for - but what do I know?

Moved my efforts over to Manville this morning.

I just started this town a few weeks ago and there's so much stuff to discover. Like why are there so many birds here?

Or where does this unmarked trail lead to?

The sucky part of covering Manville is that it takes about 40 minutes to get there. And it's the same route more or less. I need variety.

I may have missed the memo. Are you doing all the roads in as many towns as you can get to?

Added a leaderboard to the first, if I liked your posted, it should be added. If something looks incorrect shoot me a message.

The posts look great, please add the length of the ride in the post so I don't have to click every strava link.

@Norm if there is an activity on a bike you can write whatever you want, the likelihood of you getting writing points is high, but no points without a ride
