The what new bike are you considering thread

Currently eyeballin’ the newest mid travel 29ers. Trance, Fuel, Tallboy, with a dark horse 5010 in there. Seems like the right do it all travel. Jason has a Fox 36 Bronson I’ve ridden some. it’s very nice but needs to be going awful fast before it wakes up.
This is what I've been looking at. I did some demoing at the fest (Trance, Habit, Horsethief, and stumpjumper). What do you all try to look for and test out when demoing a bike? Asking as I'm newer to the sport and have only owned an entry level hardtail.

Lots of things to evaluate but if you’re relatively new try stuff like this.
Do you feel stretched out? Cramped? Do your shoulders or neck hurt after a while?
Too tall on the bike (like it feels high off the ground or tippy) or is the seat post way far out for your legs to be comfy?
Side note: it’s very easy to run your saddle too low, make sure you’re close to correct leg extension. You can google that one....
Some stuff like pedal efficiency is hard to quantify but are you struggling to keep up with others? Feel like it’s dragging uphill?
Do you feel confident going downhill or nervous?
Are you able to put the bike where you want to in turns or can’t keep a line?
I’m trying to think of things that come down to feel but at least you can compare to a different platform.

Modern bikes are pretty good. It might just come down to what feels right under you. Pick a category and price range and try that.
If there’s a demo available for something you haven’t thought of maybe try that too just to see what the difference is. Maybe you’ll love a XC or enduro style bike more.
Remember this is all for fun!

Thanks. I like to soak up the knowledge. I definitely gravitated toward the trance. I liked how it felt solid while pedaling, but soaked everything up. Gotta demo it and others more though.

It did all the dumb things I enjoy without drama, and went uphill well to boot. And 2020 pricing is pretty good. That said it didn’t wow me but I’d own one. Need to ride a stumpy ST.

I was leaning towards the Giant Trance, 2 years ago until I demoed a Yeti SB 4.5 and it was all over. Great climbing machine and a beast on descents. I believe it is now called the SB 130. If you have a chance to get up to Vermont again near the Killington area hit up Alpine Bike Works. They have a fleet of demos to rent or purchase. Then hit Pine Hill , great park in Rutland

Considering this as my FL road bike
