Things that make you frown :(

Not sure where else to put this, but a good read.

Thanks Great read for sure.

This pretty much sums it up for me with regards to my MTB riding anyway, something I have done from the beginning of me dipping my toe into MTB riding back in 2017.

Pedaling all day on cross-country trails that don’t have massive jumps, huge drops, or intentionally-challenging rock gardens and root webs is simply less dangerous. It’s an inherently safer version of mountain biking.

I accept the argument that the 1000's of miles of road riding I have done could be considered just as dangerous or even more so. But when it comes to my MTB skills and goals, I really could be satisfied riding LewMo, 6MR, Nassau and the sections of places like SSP where there are less technical sections and more flow/fun. yeah no

I got really lucky with my fractured patella/Fib tip (while wearing knee pads) after the Dickerson Mine race 2 years ago where I didn't need any surgery or other treatments aside from rest & rehab for a few weeks. But that was a good reality check not to keep pushing too much on the MTB, so I can still have fun and enjoy my other types of riding and not increase the chances of being more seriously injured permanently. Im quite happy to stay an "advanced beginner" when it comes to my MTB riding.

Maybe.

30 years of listening to customer's tails of how and where they were injured sways my perception a bit. Far more injuries at 6MR than places like Sourlands. Sourlands being so technical means that "usually" the crashes are much slower. Places like 6MR can give a false sense of security. From my riding, crashes at smoother places are usually at a much higher speed and surprisingly very unexpected when they happens. When riding technical places, preparing for the unexpected dismount is always in the back of your mind. At least mine.

also a fair point. I intentionally slow down and dont chase or "try to keep up" during any MTB ride. I finally have a good feel for my limits especially even on smoother trails. But youre right anything tech and Im ready for a dismout- hence flat pedals too.

7 years ago today, life changing injury at Allaire. Will never be the same. But I am enjoying the ride nowadays. I avoid ANYTHING techy, even if I'm embarrassed about it. And NEVER go for any speed records. I do miss the chase, but I can live with some nice memories and pedal on.

parked in the street (a couple houses down) so i could get out more easily took these clowns like 10 minutes to move the trucks so i could get out of the driveway, and then they were all mad about having to move.
I’m with you. We had the gas mains replaced in our hood circa Memorial Day 2023, then the town did drainage and curb work in 2024, and finally paving done in November. While I appreciate the improvements to my neighborhood, contractors in general DNGAF and make the process more painful than necessary. Like:

Showing up at 7am and closing roads with no notice. This impacts things like getting into/out of your driveway or neighborhood, and makes it a shit show for the school busses.

Getting shit all over your yard like rocks, scrap materials, etc

Leaving equipment parked in the worst possible places (blind corners)

Not taking proper precautions like dust control

Sure you can complain, but they will do the same thing again tomorrow.
