Looks like a big problem beer and hunting. That's why I never went deer hunting with my friends. They would drink beer at lunch and go out for a second drive. I only hunted waterfowl but not anymore.

Is the cost of MTB injuries worth the risk? I'm beginning to reconsider, and other riders are too.

Pedaling all day on cross-country trails that don’t have massive jumps, huge drops, or intentionally-challenging rock gardens and root webs is simply less dangerous. It’s an inherently safer version of mountain biking.
also a fair point. I intentionally slow down and dont chase or "try to keep up" during any MTB ride. I finally have a good feel for my limits especially even on smoother trails. But youre right anything tech and Im ready for a dismout- hence flat pedals too.Maybe.
30 years of listening to customer's tails of how and where they were injured sways my perception a bit. Far more injuries at 6MR than places like Sourlands. Sourlands being so technical means that "usually" the crashes are much slower. Places like 6MR can give a false sense of security. From my riding, crashes at smoother places are usually at a much higher speed and surprisingly very unexpected when they happens. When riding technical places, preparing for the unexpected dismount is always in the back of your mind. At least mine.
7 years ago today, life changing injury at Allaire. Will never be the same. But I am enjoying the ride nowadays. I avoid ANYTHING techy, even if I'm embarrassed about it. And NEVER go for any speed records. I do miss the chase, but I can live with some nice memories and pedal on.Not sure where else to put this, but a good read.

The primo gravel just south of fiddlers elbow on Island Road has been paved. More of a chip coat, smoother and crappier. What a downer
How would you have prepared differently if they let you know?no previous warning, no notice, just showed up this morning and started cutting up the road, WTF!

To go by eggs?
I’m with you. We had the gas mains replaced in our hood circa Memorial Day 2023, then the town did drainage and curb work in 2024, and finally paving done in November. While I appreciate the improvements to my neighborhood, contractors in general DNGAF and make the process more painful than necessary. Like:parked in the street (a couple houses down) so i could get out more easily took these clowns like 10 minutes to move the trucks so i could get out of the driveway, and then they were all mad about having to move.
