This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

What does NJ have to do with Florida?

OK, @SLIKRICK.

Let’s assume that for practical purposes there were in substance no vaccines available before December 31, 2020. None in Florida (population 21.5mm according to the World Bank) and none in Japan (population 126.3mm---who gnu?) Meanwhile the C19 virus has been churning away for a full year.

The dead body count at 12/31/20 was 21,673 in Florida per Worldometers and 3,414 in Japan. If

“Vaccination is the only thing that really makes a difference”

then how come the kill rate per million is 37 times higher in Florida than Japan? Could it be that masking, testing, quarantining and other tactics mitigate the death rate? Is it possible that suppressing the virus gives scientists time to develop more effective treatments including vaccines?

Or is tRUMP clone DeSantis just the world's best leader? I am assuming that if rick can hack on Murphy (see 100 examples in this thread above,) then we can discuss leadership as a factor.

That book "Nightmare Scenario," which I posted above is quite informative. I mean, if you read books...

What does this guy have to do with Uncle Joe?

i mean i dont generally get the flu shot either and i also scheduled my covid shot the day i was eligible.

as a note, my lack of getting the flu shot has always been a convenience thing, i remember it being a wait and a time sink growing up, but at that age the parental units didnt give much choice. As such i never made an effort to go out of my way to get it. My wife insisted on stopping to get it last year, and it was surprisingly quick simple. I probably still wont go out of my way to get it but if Im at a place that offers it and theres no line . . . . why the hell not.

They don't offer free flu shots at work? That's shocking. Our company did it every year.

they do, but i believe its
1) limited supply, service members get priority (duh)
2) on the far side of base at the medical building, and there always seems to be a line.
3) limited distribution windows

like i said, its a convenience thing, and our local shoprite doesnt have a pharmacy to just get it while doing food shopping (it looks like they used to have one, but not anymore)

eh stupid government - figures!

Initial report from your intrepid FL visitor. 3rd straight daily record for hospitilizations. Very exciting.

Almost every employee at the local (Clermont) publix and 60% of customers masked up. Staff at the clubhouse in my Mom's community masked. Panera had a sign asking everyone to mask up.

Hey did you ride Sugarloaf mountain road yet??

PS good news about Clermont - I only rode there and drove thru but assumed most of interior FL was red-necky. Lake County is #12 by best vaccination rates - above the state average. Our county (Sarasota) is #4.

Ah, deer. For a second I thought this was something Rick saw on Fox about immigration. Oh deer.

Ha no but thanks for bringing up uncle Joe's idiotic policy of not allowing vaccinated Canadians to cross the northern border for a week of vacation, but unvaccinated and even covid infected migrants can come right across the southern border and then get disseminated around the country. Sheer lunacy!

I rode past it this morning! 1750ft in 28 miles. In FL. Never expected to need my little ring, nevermind 39x25.

Come on, man, how can you ride past it but not go up? It's the biggest hill anywhere in FL! Give me something to shoot for when I ride there again next year.

PS your folks may find this interesting - gov DeSantis had a teleconference with hospital administrators across the state. Some interesting takeaways:

  1. Well over 90% of the patients in hospitals primarily for covid are unvaccinated (duh!)
  2. The average age of these patients is 50s - last year, it was 70s
  3. These patients are being successfully treated with monoclonal antibodies - if administered early enough, most are well enough to go home in a few days
  4. Several hospitals reported that up to 25% of their "covid patients" are hospitalized for other reasons, but tested positive for asymptomatic covid and as such as counted as covid patients. A significant number of these are fully vaccinated.

policy is not based on science.

I can roll into Tijuana right now and come back same day. Canada does not allow this. So we mirrored their policy.

First, Canada DGAF if you roll into Tijuana and go back to Branchbrook, same day.

Second, on Monday I will be able to roll into Montreal & back home same day.

Cool. Restriction lift on 9th. I expect America to follow.

The us enacted a tit-for-tat policy. That was the point for Rick

Not everything is all science all the time.
