This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

i was lucky. I had it so bad (visually) on my leg that my Dr called in his partner to see it but it wasn't that painful.
Mine was all torso and back - probably the area it was in. My uncle had a breakout on his head, so I consider myself lucky.

I had no idea there was a vaccine for shingles. Good to know.

I didn't know so many younger people got shingles. I thought it was primarily a disease of those who had chicken pox as kids, i.e. geezers. In any event, they should lower the age for the vaccine.

It seems like people are getting shingles younger now. They should definitely drop the age for the shingles vaccine.
Most of us in our forties also had 🐓pox when we were kids. The pox vaccine didn’t come out until much later. It would be interesting to know if people who had the pox vaccine are also at risk for shingles.

I'm friends with the drummer from Winger. Man, they were really truly upset about getting poked fun on Beavis and Butthead. They feel it really contributed to ending the band's career. Sorry, back to shingles, I mean Covid 19. Fck it. I'm over it.

B&B made fun of the great Winger?? How dare they. I see they are touring again - gonna try to catch them in Key West next january.

Interesting - had to Google it and the varicella vaccine wasn't approved until 1995, the year our son was born.
Was totally confused to find out there was a Chicken Pox vaccine. Like why the fuck wasn't I given that instead of getting the pox and possibly shingles when I got older?? Did I have anti-vaccine parents?

Then yeah, found it out it came out like 10 years after I got it as a kid.

Thanks! I really thought I was going to die the past 5 days. Stabbing chest pain is one of the symptoms. I visited urgent care Monday. Ekg, X-ray all good. A very little Rash didn’t show up till Tuesday. Today went to ER. Because I thought I was going to die last night again. Bloodwork etc. My wife was already planning my funeral. That’s how bad it got for me.

if Rona don’t get you shingles will!

Most people get shingles once. You can get it twice or very rarely three times. I’m learning a lot about shingles. My luck lately, I’ll get it 4 times.

I had the shingles in my early 20s. It hurt so bad I had hard time even standing up. Most of the bad symptoms went away almost immediately after I took Valtrex. So in this case, the vaccine seems to works even after you get the virus.

FYI to those planning to go to Canada soon - one of our Sept fishing group just got back from a trip. Entry/exit was smooth, but they threw a curve ball with random testing. No big deal if you are staying in a big city but if you are heading to a remote area for recreation, will cause a delay. See his commentary:

We went up to Sioux Narrows 3 days later (last thursday) home this afternoon. As long as you had the Arrive Canada app. and had walked through that process and had hard copies of your proof of vaccination and negative COVID test (molecular) Entry was easy and not an issue. The wait was no more than usual entry. 2 couples in our group however ended up being picked for the random COVID Test. That was a mess. How the "random" test was performed according to the border patrol agent was that 1 hour in every 24 hour cycle they random test. Meaning everyone going through that entry point for that hour will be given a test box. You have 24 hours to complete the test. What you have to do is basically contact this Health group that has you facetime on your phone or computer with a nurse that watches you perform the nasal swab. She gives you the thumbs up then you have to contact Purolater courier to pick up the sample. That was where the breakdown occurred. After about 2 1/2 hours of trying to get a hold of Purolater with no success they gave up and came up to the resort. While they were wandering around fort francis trying to drop this off, We found out that the bait shop in Sioux Narrows had a bunch of test kits in their cooler waiting to be picked up Next tuesday when Purolater next comes to Sioux Narrows!!! The border patrol was of no help other than to say "Yeah its kind of a mess right now!". Not sure if the process will change or if how they pick up random COVID test kits will change between now and when you guys go, but it might be worth a call to Ed to see what the process should be if one of your vehicles ends up being tested. We are scheduled to go up Labor day again so I will update you if anything changes. For now if we are randomly picked for testing, we will thank the agent for their work, and test once we get to Sioux narrows and find a drop off site (like the Marina there). That will obviously be easier in Sioux Narrows than up at Camp near WhiteDog. So like I said, a call to Ed to see if they have a way to have that test kit picked up if you are unlucky enough to get picked. the amazing part was we had 4 cars go through and 2 of us went through and the next cars behind us ended up being tested. It was all run by computer as at 9:00 the ARRIVECANADA app flipped requiring testing!. Hopefully between now and then they have figured out a more efficient system.

It took that long for results? Where did you go? I have to find a place that can turn around results in 24 hrs to get into Canada next month for fishing.
