Why have an increased risk?

so, I’m not disagreeing with you but the only comprehensive study I’ve seen, which was published by the CDC showed that there was no discernible difference in Covid spread between a school where everyone (students, teachers, and all staff) wore a mask Vs. a school where only teachers and staff wore a mask.
Based on that it does not appear that masking young kids (I think this study was K-5th grade) makes a difference.

As a parent of a 2nd and a 4th grader, I go back and forth on what I think they should do. I’m not an expert. I’ll make a prediction that speech therapy is going to be a booming industry soon though. It’s pretty hard to learn how to talk when you cant see teachers mouth.

And speaking of the kooks screaming at the board meetings, they need to realize they should be screaming at our governor and not the school board. The boards have no say, at least here in NJ. The school board is usually a bunch of volunteers who just wanted to help out. Now you read about them getting threatened because they won’t “end the masks”. WTF. If that was me, I’d just resign. I’m sure that’s going to happen and then there will be no board at all. That shit just adds to the toxic environment which the kids are already trying to learn in.

Are there any similar studies since the Delta variant took hold? Before the Delta variant I wasn't too concerned, I'd send my kids to school and half the time they'd come out without one. It didn't bother me. But now with pediatric cases spiking and my wife talking to all types of doctors around the country about being overwhelmed with covid cases again, I'd just rather send my kids to a school that did their best to comply with masking. It's such a simple thing to do, I don't understand the issue with it. My 2yo doesn't even want me to take it off of him half the time.

Don't get me started. More bullying and threats from this guy. Which is definitely the best way to get folks on your side. Can't wait till he starts sicking DYFS on the unvaccinated for child abuse.

"Pormilli said the Governor’s office has been clear with sanctions they will impose against school districts including suing the district, revoking teaching licenses, and even jail time. Under the Governor’s executive order, teachers and parents can be fined up to $1,000 per person and could also face imprisonment for up to six months for each violation, the board’s attorney said."

The executive order
page 6 paragraph 2
Penalties for violations of this Order may be imposed under, among other statutes, N.J.S.A. App. A:9-49 and -50.

N.J.S.A App. A9-49
An Act concerning violations of certain executive orders, rules, and regulations and amending...
Violations as disorderly conduct...
Violate any other provision of this act declared herein to be unlawful--shall be adjudged a disorderly person and shall be subject to imprisonment for a term not to exceed [6] six months or shall pay a fine not to exceed $1,000.00 or to both a fine and imprisonment, in the discretion of the court.

N.J.S.A App. A9-50
Aiding or abetting violation
Any person who shall knowingly aid or abet another in the violation of any provision of this act shall also be adjudged a disorderly person and punishable in the same manner as the violation aided or abetted.

if someone isn't following for A9-50 your punishment is the same as A9-49.

I see nothing for revoking a licenses but....

N.J.A.C. 6A:9B, State Board of Examiners and Certification
6A:9B-4.4 Grounds for revocation and suspension of certification The Board of Examiners may revoke or suspend the certificate(s) of any certificate holder on the basis of demonstrated inefficiency, incapacity, conduct unbecoming a teacher, or other just cause. Other just cause shall include, but not be limited to, offenses within the terms of the forfeiture statute, N.J.S.A. 2C:51-2, or the disqualification statute, N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.1. The Board of Examiners may revoke or suspend a certificate upon evidence that the holder did not meet the qualifications for the certificate at the time of issuance or no longer satisfies the criteria set forth in N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-5.1(b). The Board of Examiners shall not revoke or suspend a certificate without providing the holder an opportunity to be heard pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-4.5.

So here is the thing there is one crowd that likes to say, "well they should have followed the law and nothing would have happened to them." I agree there are mechanisms in place to challenge these executive orders. By all means I welcome those challenges but if someone without the power to do so doesn't want to follow the rules, "well they should have followed the law and nothing would have happened to them."

@extremedave, this is business as usual for teachers only because of covid is this now a political issue, would you like teachers to challenge state testing or anything else because there political views don't align. If anything this makes a teachers job easier, its out of their hands and they can't do shit about it.

The kids don't care its the parents who have the issue. Someone like @rick81721 is going to be so cavalier because he has no skin in the game(so he thinks), he is vaccinated so the pandemic is over for him and anything from here on out is an inconvenience to him until he goes OTB and can't get any care because his dumb ass friends have already taken up all the hospital beds. Your or my dead kid would just be a statistic to someone like rick, and lets not lose sight of long term effects. These kids are just starting out, it isn't worth the roll of the dice to see if my kids ends up with damaged lungs for the rest of their lives. The physical impact is one thing but they're young enough were we have to consider that covid related effects could be considered a pre-existing condition and they can't get care because of president desantis getting rid of ACA related protections.

I find people who like to post pictures of them being in church to be the least compassionate and it isn't a problem until its their problem, but hey that is why the sinners sit in the front row.

anyway fire and brimstone speak
Lev.13 Verses 45 to 46

[45] "The leper who has the disease shall wear torn clothes and let the hair of his head hang loose, and he shall cover his upper lip and cry, `Unclean, unclean.'
[46] He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease; he is unclean; he shall dwell alone in a habitation outside the camp.

but lets take gays are bad from the bible but not wear a mask and quarantine?

I believe there are indeed lawsuits in the works currently. Which technically is the correct or appropriate way to challenge these mandates. I do feel for the teachers and administrators as they are stuck in the middle. Parents feel powerless with little other recourse but “write your congress person“ and so they lash out at whoever is standing at the podium.

my daughter doesn’t mind the mask so much although it fogs glasses which is annoying. So I kinda keep my peace.

I self edited some other stuff I wanna think about a little more and try to discuss reasonably without it devolving to name calling. Which someone already did but whatevs.

My local school system has a full-blown Q-anon jackass on the Board of Education. I don't know the outcome but they were trying to pass a rule that teachers could not talk about the COVID vaccine. Let that one sink in for a minute. Elections have consequences, amirite?

It's been the best thing ever for my daughter's K-8 private school. They have a waiting list. Her class (going into 7th) grew from 44 to 58 kids this year. Same deal as last year for now - everyone masked, no cafeteria, lunch in homerooms, big rooms still repurposed as classrooms. A few kids caught COVID last year from parents/older siblings but there was zero transmission between classmates or among the staff. Hopefully the more contagious Delta will be offset by vaccination.

This is a good article about why the Florida C19 death rate is so high:

@SNOWFAK3

In the few days since the article's dateline, the 7DMA for FLA dead bodies increased from 242 to 276---just under 2,000/week.

A big factor is:

"The situation in nursing homes, where infections can spread swiftly, has also been problematic. While vaccination rates among older Floridians as a whole have been good, the rate of nursing home residents who are fully vaccinated — an average of 73.1 percent in each home — is lower than every state but Nevada, according to the C.D.C. About 47.5 percent of nursing home staff members were fully vaccinated as of Aug. 15, the lowest of any state but Louisiana."

Couldn't read your link, but if the "big factor" came from the same article, it doesn't hold water. According to the spreadsheet, there were 53 deaths in FL nursing homes week of Aug 15 - which represents 3% of total deaths for the week. Same week, there were 18 deaths in PA nursing homes, which was 25% of their total deaths for the same week.

PS wave is on the downside in FL, cases/% positive are dropping, hospitalizations down 10% from the peak. Deaths likely to peak in a week or 2.

How are you the authority on this? You're the least objective person on this forum.

Florida being such a big tourist destination probably adds to the problem. People can bring the virus from all over the country.

The problem is your people - age under 40, with less than 50% fully vaccinated. My people (60+) are well over 75% fully vaccinated. Sorry if the facts don't jive with your silly notions.
