This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

Large crowds with talking loud/singing are high risk.

When will they make the call about middle school/high school/colleges ?
only loud talking? it has auditory indicators now!

I am in OCM right now and DE just re-closed bars for the 4th of July weekend, mainly because 20 something simply DGAF. We ate outside in DE and it was kinda weird that the place was probably 30% filled.
On the interesting side, my wife witnessed a non-mask wearer being arrested in a dollar store for not wearing a mask, while he screamed ‘Mercia, ‘merica! Negative points for not recording it ?.

schools are waiting until the last min, mainly because no one has the balls to make a decision. Looks like most places with have a hybrid in-school/

yup - that was one of the conclusions from the meat packing plants, and the church services.
probably crowded bar would apply - which is why they are getting shut down -
that and the puritan deep state wanting to reduce alc consumption as retribution for pausing church services. 😉

We've been to this party before. Deaths are a lagging indicator. 2 weeks ago we were seeing 20k new cases/day. Now we're at 40k. There's some optimism that there are more younger people testing positive and they generally have a better outcome.

I've been following Florida and the 2 weeks aren't panning out. Here's the data:

Increase in new cases - 470%
Increase in new hospitalizations 2 weeks later - 30%
Increase in new deaths 2 weeks later - 11%

Hospitalizations should increase before deaths, but this is a more difficult metric to gauge as most states count anyone in a hospital who tests pos for covid as a covid hospitalization.

I'm going up to Maine next week, my buddy lives by Katahdin Woods, he basically lives in the moondocks, but I still want to get tested because to visit Maine you need to either A) quarantine yourself for two weeks once you arrive or B) show that you took a Covid-19 test (and negative) within the last 72 hours on arrival.

Any suggestions where I can go get one with results in a timely fashion in Middlesex/Monmouth county area?

At this point these inter-state "quarantines" are silly. There is no enforcement, the tristate area just increased their Francis list to 16 states - basically every one that has reopened before NJ. What's going to happen when NJ, NY cases start to rise, are they going to quarantine themselves??

PA just did this:

no one enforces this crap and you can always say you are 6’ from someone

Just broke a little while ago:

The Mills Administration announced today that it is exempting visitors from the States of Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey from the 14-day quarantine requirement or negative COVID-19 testing alternative, effective this Friday, July 3, 2020.

Doing a happy dance right now.

My son's new school (Bloomsburg) told him all dorms will be singles in the fall. Not sure how they are going to pull that off?

Yeah, one son lives of-campus in DC and his school is going singles only. Other son's school is singles/doubles, and he'llbe one of three in a 3-bedroom suite.

Reactions: don
Pitt booked all the hotels around campus to use as additional dorm space to spread out the kids. Of course my son will be off campus and can't wait for his fraternity parties. I think it's just going to spike in every college town.

I spoke to a local HS teacher and they still have no clue how they can handle this. They were short on space already.

Standard double rate! Win.

These kid's are loosing so much from their college education experience that the schools should really reduce the costs to attend until this crap is over with. Pitt still sends us requests to donate additional money beyond the $50k/year the school costs. Considering they have over $4 billion in endowments I really don't feel bad if they have some extra expenses until a vaccine exists.

So, I wear a tube of fabric around my neck while riding. When I see people walking ahead, I slow down and pull the tube over my mouth and nose and get off the trails 10 feet if possible. 1/10 times I am surprised and have to juke. It's a good time to build up goodwill with other trail users.

It is hard to breathe with the fabric over my mouth and nose and feels like a shot of O2 when I slide the fabric down around my neck.

Hikers are <50% mask wearing, I would guess. No significant # of runners wear masks. I would say that most mtb riders that I see don't wear masks.

I'm staying away from crowded parks so I'm rarely seeing anyone on trails. Road not an issue, tho some lady a few weeks ago gave me the stink eye as we approached in opposite directions and she put on a mask.
