It seems like the issue is budget and sourcing best parts for the money and I side with both. I do a boatload of searching when choosing something to find the absolute best price for a part I want and theres a ton of options for mtb stuff out there to weigh cost vs quality. At the rate its going, I might just sneak into his garage and build it up for him.

I dunno about that. I'm still learning a lot about all the different components. Take forks for example: he's looking at the pike or yari. I know theres a bunch of different versions of pike plus upgrades to make lesser versions match the higher versions. So you search around at all the different options and prices out there to figure out the best option. If you got lots of money to burn then sure, who cares. But if you're working with a thin budget like myself, you gotta take the time. The value of your time greatly outweighs any savings...... if it takes more than 5-10 min you’re probably loosing a lot of money. ?

This, and staring at the price a million times will not bring it down either...Oh, that’s research. That’s ok. I was referring to jenson has it for x.... let’s spend weeks to try to get it for 20 bucks less. That’s money out the window.
How far away are you from your new bike being built? Like someone else said, it's probably best to do if you have more than 1 bike so that it's more of an option than the only choice. But honestly, you can find a new rear wheel on the internet for like 60 bucks if you hate SS, so it's not like it's crazy expensive. Should also try to weigh the fact that this bike probably won't get much use once you get the new one built up, so it's best to keep the spending minimal on it.
He only needs the drive train. Everything else can be moved over from the old bike.It seems like the issue is budget and sourcing best parts for the money and I side with both. Well, it's a bit of both. I'm a cheapskate, so I'll gladly put hours in to get that satisfaction of knowing I made the best possible purchase.Oh, that’s research. That’s ok. I was referring to jenson has it for x.... let’s spend weeks to try to get it for 20 bucks less. That’s money out the window.

Buy/fix the Ragley's rear hub/wheel
Or.... build up the new frame asap.
Eh... he could also borrow my Talon's rear wheel too.
Yea that is pretty close to done, just need cable housing and attaching the rear derailleur and I forgot need to replace the headset, but I actually have that so no biggie.
FMMMM**!Get a cheapo rear wheel, or better yet, borrow Paul's, I'll give you a SS cog, and run the Ragley SS till the new bike is finished. Better yet , I can set you up with a 26'er rear, and make a small wheel mullet SS !
FMMMM**!
