Vintage bike forum??

Still have my much-loved 97 Jamis Dakar Team which I try to ride a couple of time a year. Bikes have come a long way...

The brakes work for shit, I never serviced the Machine Tech hubs because I'm afraid to take them apart. The wheels are far from true and the aluminum nipples are frozen so that's how they shall remain for eternity. I do have service kit of the SID so that's on the to-do list.

isn't this considered vintage now?

i went to ride my blur but suddenly the battery was dead (or i didnt notice the blinky lights not being green) so i swapped onto this and had the time of my life, so many good feels. all the big squishy things and bee boop shifting is great and all, but stripping it all back and riding this was a treat. seems odd to say out loud tho

Yeah, imo vintage is now QR, steep-straight headtubes and longish stems. That looks spot on

You have pulled away the modern curtain and now seen the light.

My well-traveled Mongoose, purchased at Bicycle World in Howell around 1991.
Many trips around the Manasquan reservoir with my kids on the backseat.
Many miles at Allaire and later on with my son at school in DC.
Gave it to my friend a few years ago for his son to get to work during High school.
Now to my great surprise it's still alive and his younger brother is currently in the South of France,
bike trekking after starting in Portugal through Europe ! Who knows where the Bike will end up!
Steel is real !
