Wawayanda Down Trees - Intel? Crowd Sourcing Your Observations...

yeah red dot's pretty much unrideable. on the bright side though, that rock bridge (nature jim) is dry for the first time in like 2 years. i couldn't believe it when i saw that
yeah saw that. the beaver dam above it looks a bit precarious but it holds

Anyone get eyes on wayway yesterday? I know we took one hell of a lashing on the first Lakeshore. I went and put my mom on generator power but didn't have a chance to run over to way way or even check my ATV trails at the house.

Currently I am on vacation and our sawyer has two broken ribs. My hope is to get to Wayway late next week to see where things are at and formulate a plan. Any specific locations and photos are super helpful and appreciated.

red dot or twin bridges...pick a side, every 150yds on red dot, 5 or so on twin bridges, red dot has been a mess all year but this storm added at least 5 more large blow downs. 2 on Hof about halfway between double pond and the office. below pic is on twin bridges.

yeah red dot has 30+ trees down, no joke. there are 6-7 trees literally stacked on top of other trees in some areas. would have made a hell of a picture as i've never seen anything like it but my gopro decided to freak out as i started recording the carnage. basically starting from just after the twin bridges connector on you are in for hell on earth.

massive trees down on mojo just before the climbing section. not passable from what i saw but i was done with trees so didn't investigate

I was able to clear everything on twin except the one pictured with a handsaw. The main problem after a wind storm is all the little branches that pop up into your wheels and drivetrain. There is no clean up crew to do this. If you ride these trails regularly, you are the clean up crew. Get off the bike and make things a little better so when somebody gets out there with a saw, they won’t have to stop 20 times to move shit you rode over/through/around. It really does take a village.

I got in there yesterday to assess. Banker trail has 5-6 blow downs about a 1/4 to 1/2 way to Ferber Circle coming from Plymouth. I literally was stopping every 2 minutes. I cleared a bunch of the little stuff, but I did not have a hand saw or chain saw to take care of the rest. Plymouth has two blow downs roughly mid way. Wall has one about 1/4 the way in. Hemlock and Load has a big one right after the creek crossing coming from Mojo Swamp. There are also 2-3 blow downs on Hofferlin coming from Ranger Station to Plymouth. They are mid way in the usual spot. The main park itself (Pickle, Tombstone, Rattlesnake, Sitting Bear, South end) were generally in good shape. Towards the latter quarter of Sitting Bear I can see a broken rather large limb will come down at some point.

red dot is now 100% cut through end to end but there's going to need to be some coordination to remove the debris/cut logs from the trail as it's a multi person job at this point to lift them off of the trail

OK. Good intel. It sounds like Hofferlin, Plymouth and Banker are the remaining trails requiring chainsaw work while red dot needs logs bucked and the trail raked? Does this sound correct?

My plan is to get into the park tomorrow do some cleanup, assess what is left and plan for some heaver work over the weekend.

Thanks to all who have been helping out. It is much appreciated!!

Still need a small chainsaw on red for a couple trees. Nothing major and both passable. Probably old ash trees. Otherwise as trekfan said, needs someone to move logs mainly south of beaver pond. And a few north of there. Nothing a strong guy can’t do. And some additional silky saw branch trimming in a few spots. This upcoming dry spell should help out.

The park is looking quite good. Clear: Hoff, Plymouth, Banker, Porcupine, Red Dot (one tree down on NJ Bridge but that is a submerged mess), all of the logs are cleared off Red Dot except one mentioned above, Old Coal, Cherry Ridge Road, Twin Bridges.

There are tons of sticks and pieces of debris all over the park. I cleared a bunch but there is much to do. If you can brush stuff off the trails while you ride, it will help a lot.

There is a JORBA/NYNJTC/MEVO TM day scheduled for 6/23/24 to rehab NJ Bridge. Please come out and help. Details on jorba.org.
