Wharton West of 206

sounds good

Just three more weeks until the rides start up again in Kings Grant. Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 7:00pm start. Parking at the Kings Grant village shopping center. This ride is every Wednesday until Memorial day in May. The rides last no less then two hours, except the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, that's three hours long, and is started at Carranza, in Wharton forest.---Jim/609-280-0111

I'll make some of those, can't wait for fall temps.

btw, may do Penn Branch tomorrow morning (very early) - last time around 6 weeks ago the go-arounds from the storm damage added about 45 minutes. Does anyone have info on the latest conditions -- it sounded like some clearing occurred from a post I noticed a few weeks back.

Thanks, Ed

sawzall

Some of the JORBA Wharton crew have been busy sawing and clearing. We will be scheduling removing (or rerouting around) the bigger blowdowns in the fall.

If you want to help out, and have a chance to use a big old timey lumberjack hand saw, (no chain saws allowed) check out the Wharton Forest trail work and ride schedule.

The current conditions prob'ly won't add much to PBT lap times, if you have the mad skills of an expert. Everyone else will still have to occasionaly dismount and drop the bike on the other side of a fallen tree.

thks

no expert here, just a newbie looking to get in shape.

Thanks for the info, I'm definitely up for helping - appreciate all the good work you guys have with the trails.

How are the conditions at Black Run?? I live in Kings Grant and ride back there often. I can't do the night rides as I work 10-7. I hiked around back there 2 weekends ago and saw some large branches blocking the trail a few hundred yards past the water tower. I moved what I could by hand but haven't had a chance to go back with a saw and clippers. The main road was also blocked by leaning pines right at the turnoff for the water tower.

Because of the snow we haven't been out there in weeks. It's been 7 weeks sense our last night ride. Hopefully we'll start again next week or the week after. Thanks for the info on the downed trees.

I got out there this past weekend and was able to clear that blowdown not far past the water tower, plus a few smaller ones out to Kettle Run Rd. On the other side of Kettle, on one of the loops, there is another huge branch on the trail. I ran out of time so was not able to completely clear, hope to get back there again this weekend.

The trails I walked were, I'd say, 60% dry. Still snow and ice on the more covered sections. The main road is still icy but I'm sure more has melted with the higher temps, hopefully you're a go for a night ride.

sandman was out there tonight clearing trails and will probably be out there on Saturday you should try to work together. Are you riding or walking? He has been going out on the bike. He's gotten a lot done but there is a lot more to do.
