What’s “easier”, XC or Endurance?

Singlespeed rigid - 32:17 Was super fast at H2H Mayhem race in all the singletrack until the fireroads where I spun out and the mudbogs where I stalled down to like 30rpm

I know for a fact that I’d be faster on my anthem around that course because It would be very comparable in all the singletrack and would be faster on the fireroads and mudbogs because I could shift.

On the fireroads, I could accelerate to a smaller cog and stay within my optimal cadence. I could maintain speed through the mud by shifting to an easier gear and spinning.
The best part about all of this is that people argue about climbing better on gears. Sittin n spinning blah blah. SSmakes everything very consistent, from efforts to recovery. I was faster on the 50 min opening climb this year at Stoopid 50 on gears than I was last year on ss. By like 16 seconds. I was also 8 lbs lighter this year but had to walk the last 1/4 mile on ss last year. It’s funny because if or when I catch a geared guy in a race it’s ALWAYS on a climb.

i’ve NEVER been caught by a SS when on a geared bike. in fact....

In MASS, we would go after the SS’ers.. and by the end of the race, I rode through their entire field and was usually picking off the younger geared class that went before SS.

You may be the exception...you do show discipline and consistency on the daily.

Someone gets it! Most people don’t have enough discipline. We can’t drop this subject until @UtahJoe rides the ssp course faster on gears ?
even that wouldn't prove anything...the race dictates the speed...that said, I would bet money on the geared version of myself just remembering how much road was in that course.

Man that mud hole of a hill that all of us up front had to get off and run...(Adam Craig was the only one who powered thru and I ran past him at one point while he was doing this) Anyway, not a chance I would be on foot if I had gears.

We will never know...
