Vermont - Beer Country???
My bro from Burlington/Montpelier region keeps bringing me the most outrageous brews from Central/Northern VT. Makes me want to do a bike tour there this summer, particularly since you can't get this stuff down here (unless you got a bro like mine)... Among the standouts:
- Heady Topper (The Alchemist, Waterbury)... This legendary gold in a can is making such a serious splash among IPA fans, the folks at The Alchemist Brewery (same guys who owned the brewpub - now turned exclusively to brewing after Hurricane Irene) are supposedly tripling their canning operation... GOOD NEWS for the rest of us, and maybe the gold may begin to flow south?
- Maple Nipple (Lawson's Finest Liquids, Warren)... Oh my, it's like it's fresh-brewed straight from the tree, this brew comes literally from the maple groves of Sugarbush... This is a wonderful, sweet (but not too sweet) darkish amber with just the right amount of hoppiness and kick.
- Edward (Hill Farmstead, Greensboro Bend)... Montpelier local beer hero (and former Jersey boy) Scott Kerner owns the Three Penny Taproom. He served me up an Edward, and I didn't leave my seat for a few more hours... An amazing American Pale Ale that grabs hold of you (and won't let go), Edward is brewed in a small family brewery, which was recently named by RateBeer.com as the "Best brewery in the world".... pretty lofty title for a tiny brewery out in the Northeast Kingdom.
Whole lotta brewin goin on up there... and the Taproom is a must-visit place... yes indeed... And say hi to Scott for me.
