What have you done to your bike today?

ā€œUpgradedā€ a bike for my brother-in-law. I took the nice Deore XT parts off my old 90s Kona Kula (18ā€ frame) and put them on his 90s GT Aggressor (20ā€ frame). Bike rides like a dream- as long as that dream only includes gentle gravel roads and paved rail trails. 🤣

I switched out my rear Assegai to a DHRII as supposedly they roll better.

I noticed no improvement in effort. šŸ™
Not surprising. You went from a heavy, burly tire to a slightly less heavy and burly tire. Try a HighRoller or Ardent.

I think an Ardent won't really have the grip I'm looking for. I figured it was worth a shot as the Assegai would be a spare for the front.

Aggressor is my favorite trail rear. Plenty of grip.
Thanks for making me second guess my decision!

Now that I have this tire on when the trails are better I can try some faster trials to see how the DHRII compares to the Aggressor. New bike with the Aggressors was a whole new experience in traction but I don't know how much of it was the tires, 35mm inner width rims, whole different bike, etc. Hoping some more trails dry out later this week.

500 mile check up on my buddy's spur.

  • Inflate dropper that wasn't returning completely from 180 PSI to 300 PSI.
  • Changed lever position
  • Adjust b-gap that was causing some shifting issues
  • Checked pad wear

I've tried so many Maxxis tire combos at this point...I have a decent idea of what works for me and what type of tread I like where. Nothing wrong with the DHR2 in the rear (it's my go to front actually), but like you're experiencing...it can definitely be a bit much for general trail riding.

Some Ultra prep. Swapped cockpit to a Atmos stem and bar because it has a built in GoPro mount for my headlamp. Bars because they're super wide and I run an inch between my grips and pogies so I can still use the bar ends. Added feedbags and pogies. Swapped stem spacers etc...
