What Wine are you drinking now?

I'm far from an expert but I know what I like.I prefer red wine over white but drink both.If I run to the store and have no time to shop I pick up Barefoot. When time is no factor I browse all the sale items and make an educated selection. This is met with ""What did you buy that for?''So my next trip I buy what someone with unlimited funds would purchase. My current make up wines are Pine&Post,Columbia Crest and St Francis . Any suggestions ?BTW I'm forbidden to bring home 3 buck chuck.

I've had the St Francis- I enjoyed their merlot (and am not usually a merlot fan), enjoyed their cab a little less than I expected to based on the merlot.

If you like bold cabs, I got a tip on a nice Chilean- Porta Reserva.
Great bang for your buck- Argentinian and Chilean are good deals compared to California cabs these days.
Among California cabs, the Avalon California cab is a pretty good value (it's cheaper than their Napa cab), and has come down in price dramatically since the vineyard has changed owners.
Some say the quality has dropped off,
but I think the price has dropped quicker than the quality and is still a good bottle for the price.

Do yourself a favor and google "top rated red and white wines under $___" and set your price. I have stumbled upon so many great wines that I wouldn't have otherwise tried that way. Do yourself another favor and take that list and visit Liquor Outlet Wine Cellars in Boonton. Stephen is the man in charge there and if he doesn't have what you're looking for, he'll recommend ten other things in the same range that are just as good if not better. That said, my barometer on red is usually $15 or under, or if I'm feeling like I might hit the lottery soon, $20 or under. Here's what I'd recommend in that bucket:

Chateau Ste. Michelle, Indian Wells Cabernet Sauvignon
Decoy (red blend by Duckhorn)
Seven Daughters Red (seven different grape blend, awesome budget wine)
Bogle The Phantom (Zin blend)

And, great advice, anything from Chile or Argentina is going to be a home run, though that market matured about 12-18 months ago, so the prices have been coming up.

My father in law is the wine drinker so I occasionally have a glass with him when we have dinner together. I prefer red wines, the Bogle Cabernet stands out as something I remember liking. My wife and I tried doing the "one glass of wine with dinner" thing a few years ago but that turned into "drinking a bottle of wine with dinner every night and make new babies", so we put an end to that craziness.

I only drink Red. I have a few that I like but believe it or not, although it is not unique in any way cause it has a name like Ford or Trek but Mondavi's Private Select label (Cab or Merlot) is really very good and around $15 a bottle. The only place around here that I found the Private Select is in my supermarket's liquor sectionn which is a good selection for a supermarket. However I've been to nicer wine stores and they didn't even have it.

For the longest time, I always gravitated towards wines with red labels. And for whatever reason, I always liked them. Let me say that I do always drink red, as white just isn't my thing. But a red with a nice, shiny red label? Nothing beats that really. Cost is immaterial. It's all about the red label.

Ah, I'm a dipshit, I know. But the experts know nothing more than I do:

So I say, find a cheap ass wine with a label you love, and save more money for better bikes and stuff.

If you do not like whites, it is because you have probably been trapped in the oaky chardonay and bland pino gri rut. Try some Italian Steel Cask Chardonay also know as a virgin chardonay.

I would also recommend a Vino Verde for the summer. Nice summer white.

We just did a run out to wine works yesterday and picked up the Chte. Ste Michelle and a bunch of others. I will rate as we go😀

Not big on California, Chardonnay or Cabernet myself. I tend to prefer blends, and I like to try different wines from all over: malbec, syrah, sangiovese, viognier, etc. Wine seems to always change, so I keep my mind open to try new wines.

Here are 2 that I like recently:

Colosi Nero d'Avola
Vina Robles White4 (42%vermentino,29%verdelho, 26%viognier, 3%sauvignon blanc)

I always have good luck with spanish reds like Rioja as well.

I had an Australian malbec recently that I liked, I have to look for that again cause I don't remember off hand what it was but remember where it was in the store

Burgans Albarino is one my favorite spanish whites, and it is pretty common.

It also has a twist top. pixy likes twist tops! 😀

Some reds I'm liking these days: deloach pinot Noir, light but totally good for nine bucks. Wooden nickel petite syrah, ballsy and rich for just 13. And bowen estate shiraz rom a region I can't spell in Aussie land. Superb.

I agree 100% not keen on the Cali stuff (nothing wrong with it - I just don't buy it)... spanish wines are my fav and Rioja's are usually money (as pixychick said)... same with Tempranillo imho...

I have 3 staples in my wine fridge: (as you can see 2007 was a good year!)

2007 Catena Malbec... hands down my favorite bottle of wine for the price! I'm down to 2 bottles and Joe Canals doesn't have anymore 07...

2007 Molly Dooker "The Boxer" Shiraz - wanna try something crazy?!? this is my new favorite wine with sushi (except eel)... if you want a cheaper option check out Woop Woop Shiraz - way better than that Yellow Tail horseshit...

2007 JJ Prum Graacher Himmelreich Auslese Reisling... you never know what company is in the mood for and while I prefer Reds 98% of the time this one will knock your socks off if you're into reislings...

don't even get me started...
