What's your go-to Maxxis tires?

I'm becoming a huge Maxxis fan. I have the Ardents on 2 bikes right now. A 29er & 26er. Seems like the perfect do all tire. Love it!!!

Ran the Aspens (26er) as a race tire most of the season. It's super fast. Seemed fine at all the different courses I did this yr including the Kitt race which was slick. Never flatted which is a plus.

Just put on the Crossmarks (26er) on Sat. Only 1 ride (race) so far but I liked it at JH on Sunday. Need more time before I'll say if it's going to be my race tire for next yr.

I ran all these tubeless on Stans wheels. None were UST. Never just a flat with any of them.

Anyone use the Maxxis Advantage? Looking at getting them but can't decide on the compound 60a or 62a😕 What's the advantages. Maxxis.com says 62a is more for racing. anyone use them for their daily rides? any issues? I Ride Blue Mountain 99% of the time. Maybe also thinking running a ardent in the front and a advantage in the back.

I've been running an Ignitor in front for a few months and I'm liking it. I have another to slap on the rear (to replace a WTB Prowler) but now I'm wondering if I should go with a Crossmark out back :hmmm:

There is also CST, to choose from. Same company, but slightly different target customer... been happy with the Caballero I won at JORBAfest 2 years ago...

maxxis tires

I had high rollers on my first rig and they lasted for a good amount of time. Not as fast rolling as some others but still great tires. better for rooty and rocky stuff. if things are loose, they didnt perform so well. in the corner after that rocky/rooty section they would slide out but any place else that doesnt involve loose dirt they are solid tires.

Recently I tried the High Rollers on my son's bike and really liked 'em. Could be my next set. I'd don't care much for a tire's weight, only durability and traction...

I tried the new Maxxis Ikon EXO this year and have been really happy with it. It's got more grip than a Crossmark or Aspen, but a little less than the Ignitor. It's a 2.2 and has alot of volume but still is 600g. They wear well, too. They are even endorsed by JimV now.

I am going to run Ignitors for the winter/spring, but the Ikons make a great all-around race/trail tire for the dryer months.

Kirt, have you ever run an Ardent on the rear in reverse direction? I've heard this is the hot ticket. I've got a pair of Ardent LUST's waiting on me at Marty's. Looking forward to some new skins.

It would seem here you're talking about a rear tire? If that's the case going with an Ignitor EXO would be a good option. Just like what you got, but beefier. I run the Ikons. They're not gonna be as grippy as what you're used to, but they are faster. I'm gonna try an Ignitor in the front and an Ikon in the rear and see what that's like. The Crossmark is terrible IMO, that things like riding a slick!!

I'm finally pretty happy with my tire setup. Ignitor front and ikon exo rear. Great classic setup IMO. Had an Aspen on the rear briefly and it didn't grip nearly as well as the ikon for me. Granted it was a used pos that pearl gave me for free. Maybe new they are better.

I recently put these on my SS and love them. They roll really fast and have a surprising amount of grip in wet conditions.

A 2.1 up front and a 2.2 out back? Madness!

I have not run it backwards though I thought about it. My Ardents were shot & I figured I could get a little more time out of the back by turning it around. Decided against it as they whrer really done & ordered some Ignitors. I can't believe how much smaller a 2.1 Ignitor is vs a 2.2 Ardent. I was mocked for having such a small tire on my Sultan by a couple of non racer friends. Also flatted it 5m into my ride. I was running 28 lbs so it's not like I was running low. It was Sourlands but still. Stans did seal it in about 3 m. Either way I need to order another set of Ardents for the Sultan & save the Ignitor for the HT.

The Ikon is actually smaller than the Ignitor despite what the sidewall says.

-Jim.

That's not the case with mine, not even close. The Ikon looks way bigger & it is. The Ikon measures (with a ruler) over 2.25 & the Ignitor barely 2.1. The Ikons are on Crest & the Ignitor on Archs.

We weren't mocking... just saying how good it was to see you again in the boulder playground. Now lose those skinny tires Racer boy. 😀

Me too. After a few rides on the Ikons, mine were a solid 2.2 on Flows. I don't think it matters, but I thought Jim was a stickler for such details. 🙂

I'm telling you son, my Ignitor is bigger than my Ikon. I have them both mounted right now at the same time on the same rims. Maybe I have some super-secret special version:popcorn:
