Why Granny Gear

I really don't use the lowest gear because wanting to switch seems to be more trouble than it is worth some times. I know it is used for climbing steep hills, but should I be using the granny gear?

There is a certain area of Tiger Woods that becomes difficult at times.

This could get ugly so I'll be nice;

I would say besides SOME of Tiger Woods, you shouldn't ever be near that gear at Allaire. You should be able to power up those in the middle ring.

Use em' if you got em'...or need em'. But if you keep using em' you'll never not need em'

Hope this helps 😀

Each his own, it's like telling someone what is the best seat to use.
It is a personal choice, and one size does not fit all. Do what is good for you and not worry what other say is the right gear for you. You will just get frustrated and give up.

If you have road the Tuesday beginners ride @ Allaire, you will see people with SS like Pearl, that at times have to get off his bike and push it up the hill. 😉:getsome:

And you have others who will change gears accordingly to what's good for them. So is it wrong to use the granny gear? No but if you can train so you do not need it as much as you may need now then you get the idea.

In the long run do what make you feel good now and build yourself up to improve your riding and the fun of the sport. IMO

Lets not discuss what we see at the Tuesday rides on a public forum.

I've only seen Baby James puke at the top of a climb at Lewis Morris. If you ever see him push his bike up anything at allare its because he broke his legs off and can't pedal

I find no shame in riding the hills at Mahlon in the granny gear as I do . My feeling is as long as the hill is hard to clear in whatever gear I'm in then I'm working hard .
