Close encounter with a Sterling rattlesnake on Saturday:

A very similar specimen was going up the road between parking lo c and b at Ringwood State park last Sunday. Lots of people taking pictures and two of the park pick up trucks escorting it wherever it was going...when I first saw all the commotion I thought Brad Pitt must have been visiting the park or something...

Hunting has been declining in NJ for years. Speaking as a former hunter........

Yep. One of the reasons for our out-of-control deer population. When my son and I took the NJ hunter safety course 10+ years ago, NJ Fish & Wildlife was really pushing bear hunting. Even gov. Beetlejuice had to re-start bear hunting last year after stupidly suspending it for a few years:

"“I was convinced by experts that non-lethal means were sufficient to control the population, those non-lethal means have not worked sufficiently,” Murphy said.

Yeah, umm. Nonlethal means of controlling bear populations? Like grizzly condoms?
