Winter riding

If you're soaked and your life is in eminent danger, you can strip down naked and do some push-ups. Bear Grylls does it all the time in Man vs Wild.

yeah he does...i've seen him pee on his shirt and wear it on his head to keep cool.

i've never been too cold, i use under armor shirts and a jersey over it, cannaondale winter bib and some warmer socks. i over heat and can't breath its hard to recover from that sometimes. another method for less sever cold is under armor summer shirt under a jersey will help with the chill and arm/leg warmers are good too. the key is not to over heat and sweat and die...winter riding once you get passed the water in the lungs feeling is the best

keep in mind that arm and leg warmers won't be enough on the really cold days, but they are good for the middle temps. I would say they limit you to somewhere in the 30's on the mtb.

Also, masks are one things I could never get used to, even when it is extremely cold, too constricting for me, feel like I can't breath. Last year I got a neck gator with windstopper from EMS and it works well to cover you neck and you can pull it up to your nose when needed and push it down if you need some air.

Well my whole Idea is not to just wear the warmers and 'hope' they will keep my warm. I want to wear the arm warmers underneath my shirt so if it does get really warm, I can take them off and throw it in the bag and keep riding. Even in 15degree weather, I have experienced that as long as my feet is kept dry and covered, my legs are not feeling it unless the air starts to go where the jewels are.

As far as the upper body goes, I want to keep them as warm as possible and keep my core temp as close to normal as possible. Keep myself well hydrated and as you mentioned, I have to try the face mask. Its actually a balaclava with fleece lining on the inside and the windstopper on the out. It only exposes the eyes. I do have to train myself to breathe through the fabric.

As far as the shoes go, I am going to keep my same Shimano mtb spds on, but get the cover that covers the ankles and shoe face. $60 bux for a pair of those are a lil expensive for me, but again, until I ride it the way it is now, I would not know what more to get.

We ride estell manor and we are in Cape May, NJ... Its not bad at all. We like it, unfortunatly its flat as can be... But it gets rid of that itch that sittin on the couch cant scratch.:hmmm: Whats a good light for a night ride? Im on about a $100 limit give or take $50. Thanks... Maybe we will meet or pass on a ride. See ya round.:getsome:

I got 2 of them in the mail. I've yet to use them but reviews are all over the interweb on how bright it is for the price. Build quality is pretty solid, except for the plastic mount.

I've got 2 also and hands down best vs. the cost. As far as mount it is the same as the much more pricey Lupine light sets. For $125 get the racers pack comes with 2 batteries, helmet mount and light.

Give us some details!!! How does it compare to other lights in brightness, beam pattern, ect? How long have you been using it? Any issues? Curious minds want to know! 🙂

So this one light is 900 lumens?? Why are you guys saying you got two?:hmmm:

Cat is out of the bag the claimed 900 is overrated but that's not say it's not 500 or 600 lumen's. Wife wants to try night that's why 2 but offers me to go with 2 also. Read 13 pages from a southcal. fourm before buy and enough to convince me. 2 lights for the cost of a low end major player no brainier to me. Time will tell if it was money well spent I'll give a review of how it holds up...

I just recieved the light I ordered for a friend. Haven't tried it on the bike yet, but just shining it out in my back yard ... Holy S*** it's bright! 😀

I'll try to report back when I get a chance to try it on the trails.

Can I stop by tonight to see????? 🙂

This light is great. I put mine on the handlebars, since it is more of a flood light. And I have Princeton Tec 3 for my helmet.

I'm not fast and I'll put that out right away, especially at night. Do you guys want to set up a 'lets give these goeman lights that i just got in the mail a test' some evening? I have a moderately priced light for my helmet that does the job and I'm looking for another moderately priced light for the bike. These geoman lights are getting decent reviews. I'd 'maybe we'd' like to see them in action in a place that we're familiar with like 'some trail off Rt.27, next to some soccer fields, where it smells like shit depending on which way the winds blows but it dosn't matter because I just had a fukn fantastic ride on the trails' place.

the reviews are true this light rocks!! I have used it twice now and have had now problem and even had a major crash with it on my helmet and the light survived no problem unlike me. anyway the only thing i can't vouch for is the longevity of the battery. so far 2 hours is all we've done and it has been very good for that time. grab one while they are still available and get the extension for the helmet mount because the wire is too short. good luck to anyone that is using one hope they last for all of our sake

jumped on the MagicShine bandwagon as of today. Ordered on and lets see when I get it. Like most of you guys, I read reviews over at Socal Riders and MTBR and the single light alone seems to be perfect for pitch black riding.

Now, I am in the process of purchasing the leg warmers and officially I have everything I need for winter biking. I dont think I should have any more purchases for my bike............... unless its a new bike. :-D

I followed the bandwagon as well. Just ordered it today. Will be running this on my helmet and the Princeton Tec SB 3 on my bars. Looking forward to trying these out.

Sure, why not. I still haven't used the lights yet. Tonight would work.

I admit all of this sounds rrrrreeeaaalllll tempting. I read all the SoCal stuff and have been reading the stuff on mtbr for a few days. Im a little bothered by the fact that some folks are already doing "home repairs" on faulty soldering and only a 90 day warrenty.
