I think I figured out why such low turnout for this race: Fair Hill has over 400 pre regs.

My opinion, but a few things going on here. Race is Saturday. Forecast is rain Sat night. Prior to '23, this was always the 1st MASS XC event and always has a huge turnout. Easy trails, so many 1st timers and part time mtbers (roadies) show up. Location between Philly and D.C. area, so non MASS racers from south of DE/MD border area make the drive.

This is true. The majority would rather race a non technical loop.

Jungle had a pretty good turnout but still nowhere near Failhill. Which by the way topped at 557 pre regs. That’s pretty impressive.

Is the loop the same as in previous Ringwood races? I thought I remembered more than 1 lap... I'm still pondering signing up despite my lack of fitness.

Each cateory doing 1 loop....cat1/endurance/pro doing 1 14 mile loop, cat 2 field doing 10.5

What @JDurk said. FH is historically the most well attended race of the season down here. It is a pretty convenient day trip for a massive chuck of the region and the course is flowy and fun.

I'm crossing my fingers for the weather to hold and numbers to go up for Ringwood too!
