Going too far … ?

I am with @Soundguy on this one. The filming makes it seem less nuts. The POV is crazy enough. But when you see some of these "normal" jumps from below, it brings a new level of appreciation for the insanity. It's way, way bigger than it seems from POV.

More than that, this isn't a 2 feature, 30 second reel for social media. This is 4 minutes of massive insane hit after hit after hit.
Idk I'd have to disagree on that . Watching the first day of practice with all the top 1% of skilled riders in the world taking all day to only ride a couple features on course I'd say it's pretty extreme . Sure by race day the top 5 or so guys kinda make it look easy but idk how you could watch hardline this year and say it's not extreme
The video effect. We have all taken video or watched POV or video from trails we know and almost nothing looks as gnarly on video. Some of the stuff you see in person and you think, damn, this is an 10’ high drop and it looks like 3 in POV.
For Gee, that sheer rock he rides before the spotters really put the angle in perspetive.

I’m going to the Nitro Circus show in September. Hope they do that triple!

It’s a bit different than the extreme MTB stuff. These guys practice in a foam pit for months. They attempt these tricks over 100 times and account for everything- speed, ramp angle, etc. until they get it right. Then they do them perfectly a bunch of times until they feel ready. It’s like high level gymnastics.

It is very similar and I think Gee's video shows the process well. He rode the whole line, multiple time, in sections and they showed him riding the section he crashed on towards the end of the video (around 6:05).

There are things many of us ride daily that we thought were difficult at some point that are now just normal. It is no different with the pro's, they are riding the biggest / steepest stuff and it just becomes what you do. So you look at this crazy stuff and think "it is only a few feet further than this"

Now the next generation sees all these videos and think it is just what you do and the progression never ends.

I find some of Fabio's in town stuff hard to watch.
How is this hard to watch!? Dude is savage. He was ripping Elite level DH racing before he made millions on youtube.... The combination of DH/Trials bike control is bananas.

Gapping narrow staircases at a million miles an hour, all I can see is the stuff he better not hit. 🙂

In the outtakes, he wrapped himself around that light pole. He's amazing but he's still dipping into his luck bucket.

There is no going "too far", that never existed, and never will, its human nature. No matter how extreme someone gets, there will eventually be someone that takes it further. Broken bones, death, etc. won't prevent or discourage anyone, it will just provide additional motivation.

I suppose i should clarify that i meant it didnt seem to be the most extreme, end all be all of mtb spectacles. There seems to be other events like Rampage that are perhaps even more so with the added level of danger there. But no doubt it is absolutely not in any way easy. Hardline seems to blend a little bit of WC DH and mixed with a bunch of Darkfest style massive, but well groomed jumps that people like Bernard Kerr just thrive on. Its meant to be a spectacle and while it was not easy for many of the entrants (like Enduro racer Lewis Buchanan), they all still managed to bang it out. Buchanan even ran the course with his enduro bike fitted with DC forks which was impressive and probably a testament to bikes these days.

I agree except there is no perfection on a triple flip. 100% mental. If he underrotated that he was dead. MTB guys crash but usually hit and then bail. FMC guys hit eject at 40’ in the sure room flat. The mtb guys also practice in foam pits btw. Did you ever see Pastrana trying the TP roll? He broke so many bones before he nailed it once.

The funny thing about the giant road gap at Hardline is everyone basically said it's the easiest part of the course.

Despite recently recovering from an injury while riding his moto last year, it seems Fabio hurt himself again a few days ago (posted on his IG). So maybe he has dipped into that luck-bucket a few too many times.

Danny MacAskill is another one. I haven't seen anything from him in awhile. His videos are great, but I can see him getting to the point where it's harder and harder to come up with ideas that film well without being too risky. He's also in his mid-30's. About 5 years older than I was when I realized I stopped bouncing like I used to and healing takes longer... and with some of the slams he takes when filming a section... damn. I can't imagine how sore he must be after a filming session. That's gotta wear on you after awhile.

It will be interesting to see what Gee does next after recovering from this one.

He posts on IG all the time. Mostly small backyard things he does or little bits & pieces. Nothing “produced” in a while. He often shows his repeated fails on IG which makes me appreciate just how hard this stuff is. He gets up every time though.

I thought I read him saying he’s retired from the especially dumb stuff. But IDK for sure.

He's just getting old and lazy like me. Busy playing with E Bikes.
