Biggest loser

I made the good choice to get Chinese last night. Delicious! I did get a nice side of veggies to cut my intake of saucy meat lol. Scale didn't slap me this morning so that's good. I'm being good today although I am budgeting for a good IPA tonight. Already got a workout in this morning and hoping to be more active this afternoon if the weather and the kids allow. Might do some TM or get another ride in later if I can make it happen.

I've been on an eating binge this whole week. Definitely mental/stress/holidays related. 🙁 The drinking has seen an uptick too. Every year this happens, and I end up getting sick with the flu or some other nasty bug. My 50th is also around the corner, which is really getting to me.

👎

Turning 50 is 1 of the main reasons I decided to get my shit together this year.

We’re old. But not yet older.

Real talk. Get your shit together if you want to be real older.

Ok tough talk here but don’t let one week determine you have failed and stop predicting the same things will happen.

You can’t control if you get the flu or get sick again but you can control what crap you eat or when you do it don’t excercise.

Also a member of the 50+ club in the last 1.5 years and I can tell you I’m still in better shape then I was even 4-5 years ago thanks to my bike and not wanting to be a fat lazy blob any more.

And if my advice isn’t any good just listen to Shia Lebeufs sage advice. :

Thank you. And for the record, I’m not in your old man 50+ club. I still have 4 weeks of carefree youth.

Back on track this week after last weekend. Both hubby and co-teacher (as well as many kids) sick so I was trying to avoid it...

Friday I was home sick and slowly getting back today. Will say that when I am not busy/distracted in the morning, eating later/IF is more challenging.

With low level of activity later in the week, I was wondering how I'd fare this morning for weight.

Down 3 lbs. Total 10!!! I can't remember if I had the initial goal of 10 last January or 15... but a win in my book.

Fantastic job on the loss !

Hell yeah! Great news, during weeks 6 and 7 are when many E2Mers see major drops in weight. You will see many mentions of "that's when the magic happens".

@a.s. following the comments by @xc62701 , @Norm , @iman29 , I'll now chime in with more 50+ advice. I was similar as you being stressed about turning 50. That was 4yrs ago now, but it wasn't until last January that I got my shit together. I always joked with my friends that I'm serious about getting serious. I think to myself pretty often, why did I wait so long. I'm without a doubt in the best shape of my life.

Don't wait, just do it.

I want to get to as @Norm calls it, real older. My dad turned 80 this year and had some health issues over the last few years. When he was my age, had already been on blood pressure meds for a long time. Never took care of himself other than being a hard worker, retiring when he was 66, after working for 44years. I'm making sure I break that cycle.

E2M program Round 6, Week 5, Day 1

Diet
Well it was Thanksgiving week. Knew I was going to cheat a little more with food, snacks, beers, and desserts. Enjoyed all the turkey and fixin's on Thanksgiving. Had a second cheat meal from the local yesterday along with a few Friendsgiving IPAs while waiting. Back on the meal plan this week.

Exercise
Circuits M/W with extra credit weights. Cardio was running on Tu, Thanksgiving morning ride with the race team dudes. Unfortunately it was concluded by a teammate having a major incident and had to call 911. Took off F and Sa to do a major re-arranging of the garage to move the exercise area and equipment out of the family room. Rode the mtb again on Su morning. 1st time on the SS in 85 days. Going to continue with the running and extra credit workouts.

Weight
1/2/22 Starting weight = 235.4
11/28/22 current weight =182.6
Diff: weekly up 6.2, total lost = 52.8
I was fully expecting to see an uptick. Will be back down to the 175 range by the end of the week. Have the tools and knowledge to get it done.

Wife is still doing better than me holding steady.
E2M program Round 6, Week 5, Day 7

Diet
Checking in a day late. Knew I was cheating Sunday night, so weighed in Sunday morning before things got busy. 1 other cheat meal earlier in the week. Other than that, been sticking to the plan. We're trying to meal prep for the week on the weekend, we've been spending too much time cooking each meal. We will still cook in the evening after work.

Exercise
Circuits M/W/F with extra credit weight workouts. Still doing the running thing on T/Th. Rode Sunday at CCC with a group of 5 teammates while dodging the big NICA group that was there for practice. Nobody got hurt this week.

Weight
1/2/22 Starting weight = 235.4
12/4/22 current weight =178.4
Diff: weekly down 4.2, total lost = 57
Didn't get back to the 175 range. Thinking the increased weight workouts might be adding some muscle. Occasionally breaking my fast early because I'm starving. Also, still cheating a little here and there with snacks.

Wife is still doing better than me holding steady.

As promised, including pic of the newly rearranged and organized garage to fit in the pain cave. Detached, uninsulated and unheated. Added a Mr. Heater Big Buddy propane heater to try and take the chill out. It was 35deg in there this morning and got as high as 40deg before I was done.

For about two months I re-directed my normal AM workout time to stretching and isometrics. Naturally, I put a few pounds back on and had a hard time motivating and re-starting the workouts. It's really no big deal, just roll with it, enjoy your 50th, and come back fighting.

I'm back on the treadmill part-time, stretching & core daily, and added racing-the-sun-back-to-my-house in the pre-dawn hours (feels pretty darn good to be freezing again).

Oh, and to all you IF crazies, well, I tried it and I like it! I started 16/8 and it's completely changed my intake stream.

I hit the scale after this weekend and just laughed. Rather it laughed at me. 179.6. That’s up 5.6 lbs from Saturday morning. I know Monday's suck but I did eat a bit more and had some treats and beer. I’ll keep on it to get that number back in the happy place.

I think we are all fighting the holiday and winter weather gain, im still up a few lbs from Thanksgivings foodfest but not as high as I was last week.

I am committed to making lemonade out of lemons with my finger injury though, so I got onto Zwift yesterday and joined a C+ paced group ride that kicked my ass for 45-50 minutes including the 10 minutes I had to chase the group because I fat fingered my AppleTV remote and it temporarily exited the ride. By the time I rejoined i was 30+ seconds behind but the group had some folks drop back and help me chase back in - almost like a real ride. Will be checking out some more of the race series too now that I have the APpleTV i can participate in any event without major slowness issues.

I will be limited to indoor rides for at least a week but the real downer is I cant use the rower which I was building up quite nicely the last few weeks. Instead I will try to incorporate some Plyometrics and bodyweight stuff that doesnt require pressure on my hands to see what I can manage. Plus i need to continue to lay off the crap food choices and not feed my aggravation that I cant ride outside - literally and figuratively.

Keep it up and you'll do alright. Last year, I tore a ligament in my thumb on Halloween. Was in a splint from the week before Thanksgiving, having it surgically repaired the week before Christmas, to the end of February. Spin bike, body weight exercises and whatever exercise I could manage, with the I.F. and was able to lose.

Truth be told I'm finding it hard to stay motivated this week. Don't know if it's the weather or the fact that my wife is away on business(less flexibility for workouts), but I'm just going to do the best I can and try and win small battles. I'm not seeing any drops unless something changes.

Was cruising along right around 200 for the last few months with some +/- 3 pound swings after cheats/no exercise. Was only up 2 lbs after T-giving so I was feeling great. Last Friday at over 204 so that snapped me back to reality. More riding/Zwift and lockdown on treats until I'm back in 200 range. Not going to the next notch on the belt!
