Ask an automobile mechanic.

@shrpshtr325 I've been looking at the Quick jacks which I know you have a set. What's the weight of each set and how long does it take for you to setup and pack away? Also been eyeing the Apluslifts, they go up to 4 feet and looks quite a bit more sturdy but not really portable.

Other options are hydraulic ramps which are cheap and good for oil changes and access to most of the front end. Anyone use one of these?

buy them pre mounted on new rims-
when you pull the old tires, it is going to pull off the rust that is attached to the rubber.
it will be a pain to mount new w/o leaking.
No rust to speak of on my trailer wheels, but good thought.

I did buy a pre mounted tire/wheel as a second spare, ‘cause tandem trailer…..

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Was hoping someone knew someone with a tire machine….

iv never heard of Aplus lifts, but if they go up 4 ft they are a different class of product than the quick jack, which is portable low rise lift.

the weight of the quick jack is mostly in the rails, the 7k lb version i have is about 90lbs each, but my 110lb 4'10" wife is capable of moving them around with the wheels or sliding so dont let that deter you. The setup/break down is not bad, <10 minutes and they are rock solid and stable once you set them up. I left my car up on them for a month while i did the suspension rebuild a couple years ago and nothing shifted. If you have a taller vehicle (even the small crossover/suv things) get yourself the truck/suv adapters, the additional height makes the lift go more smoothly. Also keep in mind if you want to use these in the garage that the car shifts forward/backward as you raise and lower them to some extent (i think the documentation says about 12 inches, but its all documented for you) This is also why i like to have the truck adapters since the lift goes up on an arc, it moves more vertical at the beginning of the lift so it doesnt have to drag the tires if it contacts the frame sooner.

I also have the older one so its only 19 inches of lift (just the rails) or 25ish inches with the adapters. I have 0 problems with getting my entire full size truck off the ground with these. you can store them under the car in the garage, or i strap mine into the unfinished stud bays of my garage.

p.s. through a mix up of quickjacks fault i have two sets of the bl-7000slx rails in my garage if you are interested.(you would still need to pump and hoses)

It is always the rust you don't see...

Oh my bad. It’s a synthetic blend haha. Because full and conventional was OOS. Yea, I am aware of the miles versus time but we can all use more time!
I’m pretty sure the old owner used synthetic because he showed me the jugs or maybe my imagination. But good info and knowledge you all shared.

How portable/easy is that to move around? How did you handle shipping as far as unloading goes?

it moves with the pump section that can lift one end of it....its not easy and its best to find a home for it and leave it there....but i have moved it around my garage.

It came on an 18wheeler with a lift gate.....I got the guy to back up my driveway....he originally didnt think he could...but being a former truck driver myself...I told him to GTF out of the way and ill show him how....then he said ok and did it. We got the pallet into my garage...the hardest part was getting the lift off the pallet which took my floor jack and some smashing of the pallet with a hammer.

Rent a forklift the day it comes -
Also have a heavy strap from harbor freight in case they don't have a pallet jack.
cheaper than lift gate service if they aren't going to ship through a local hub.
Sounds like I would be better with the EasyJack for being able to move it around easier. Thanks!

I mean it depends what you want to do with the car....I wanted the abilty to fully lift my car and stand under it....which I can do in my garage (its a steel building with a high ceiling) if you can't do that, and dont need that kind of height, I would go with the quick jacks.

The name of these things would make me think twice before I crawled under.

I've heard one drawback to mid rise jacks is the middle of the car is obstructed. There's probably not much to service in that area on a regular basis but could be cumbersome from time to time.

this is true, however for the most part there is little that resides there. And with the 4 extensions, there is ~8in gap between the car and the lift. In the case of my mustang, the only thing it kept me from doing was taking the trans in/out....I lowered the car from the lift onto 4 ramps, then slid the lift back and out of the way to do the trans. I had no issue doing things like running the brake/fuel lines.

I mean the best ones are sideposts and I considered one....but what stopped me was that it has to be bolted in place...and its great when your using it, but I didnt want to have to park inside of it for the rest of time..having to be super careful not to hit my door on it...so the midrise was a nice compromise

Have you considered a four post to able to store a prancing pony above the Porsche?
Five of us helped a co-worker unload a Backyard Buddy setup. The delivery guy was pissed that there was no forklift. That things was a beast for us to get off the truck.
He eventually put his Factory Five Cobra on the top and his 65 Mustang underneath.

Any BMW experts here?

Wife called yesterday that an alarm sound was coming from the rear of the car while driving. Turned off car and it continued. I'll cut the story short. Google pointed me to the rear liftgate module being submerged in water. Sure enough. The battery and this module sits in rear hatch (in about 3" of water).

There is a nice drain plug but with it closed the water just accumulates.

IMG_2698.jpeg

The liftgate module sits inside a styrofoam enclosure that I think was designed to keep any water below it. However the water was so deep it just went up and I’ve and filled the module with water.

Hopefully I can dry this thing out and it might work again. Then of course there is the bigger issue of where the fuck all this water is coming from.
